Re: Eagle's Last Flight

I am shocked to hear of this and saddened to. A strong personality, and an amazing talent. Best wishes to his family through this time.

If you don't know eagle, take a moment to look over the net at some of his amazing craftsmanship. Some of it exists here: http://www.ncwoodworker.net/pp/showg...00&ppuser=1092

I also found this in his North Carolina Woodworker profile:

http://www.ncwoodworker.net/forums/members/eaglesc/
A lathe is nothing more than a tool not a definition of what I am.
I am not a "turner" just because I use a lathe. I am not a "table sawyer" becase I use a tablesaw.
I craft pens using my brain, my eyes and my hands along with different tools.
Call me a pencrafter."

I'm very sorry to hear of this. I only met him once, but his work spoke volumes. May he rest in peace and may God bless his family, now and in the future.

Re: Eagle's Last Flight

I too never met him but enjoyed his wonderful craftmanship. I would have loved to see him in action. I hope his family will take comfort in knowing he truly lives on through the wonderful pens and other items he made. If any one sees the family please express my sadness for their loss.

Sorry to hear this. An artist and a unique personality for sure. His sig line pretty well says it all:

"A lathe is nothing more than a tool not a definition of what I am.
I am not a "turner" just because I use a lathe. I am not a "table sawyer" because I use a tablesaw.

I craft pens using my brain, my eyes and my hands along with different tools.

Re: Eagle's Last Flight

He certainly made an impact on all who came across him and his works of art.
I hope there are tools in Heaven and he makes his way there to rest in peace.

Re: Eagle's Last Flight

Just as so many have said on the sites, he was an amazing artisan and an interesting sort of fellow.
He inspired me. I was having problems with getting started in pens, and he offered me all the help he could. He gave me his cell phone number and said just call and I can talk you through anything you need.
Certainly speaks volumes to me of his character and his artistic sharing nature. Very much exemplifies the spirit and sense of community this site manifests.
Fly home Eagle! Soar among the winds~

Re: Eagle's Last Flight

About 4 yrs ago, a bunch of us woodworkers met at Woodcraft, toured Tom's shop, and ate lunch at the then Don Murray's BBQ. Eagle drove up from SC. This was before he became so well-known for his pen craftsmanship. He was a nice guy with a unique personality who absolutely loved BBQ (about as much as I do). Believe me when I say the man could really put away the "Q". It's a shame that whatever it was that caused him to leave this forum occurred. He definitely was an artist with an artist's personality and had a lot to offer. May he rest in peace and my prayers go out for his family.

Re: Eagle's Last Flight

That is not the kind of news I wanted to see this morning.

Eagle was an amazing talent. His last post here caught many by surprise, but it was so typical of him! In case anyone wondered, Eagle still kept an eye on the forum. He emailed me after I did the walnut pen with the cherry inlay. Although he wouldn't share his secrets, I think he enjoyed having someone "figure out" how he did something!

I will miss him being around!

Gary, thanks for the notice.
