Charlotte Shop Crawl?

Alright I'm jealous-everyone that got to go to the shop crawl this weekend looked like they had too much fun. (Thanks everyone for the pics-guess it really did happen) Let me be the 1st to recommend we have a shop crawl here in the Charlotte area sometime soon! I'll volunteer my shop as a tour option to start things off-any other Charlotte area members up for it?

Re: Charlotte Shop Crawl?

Yep, I'm up for it! I'm over in the sticks in Stanly County, so I probably can't host this time. I'd be interested in seeing some shops in the greater Queen City area. Especially that "tool warehouse" of Jeremy's!

Re: Charlotte Shop Crawl?

Put my shop on the list ... and depending on the timing (around the new baby), I can probably help coordinate it.

Re: Charlotte Shop Crawl?

Although I may not be able to attend, I am willing to help organize one. Witht Jeremey expecting an addition to the family soon and the picnic in May I would set the date in the summer. That being said there is no time like the present to line up the shops and hosts. So please reply to this thread if you are interested in hosting.

Once we have enough shops I will try to arrange a travel plan and put together the rest of the materials with Jeremy's help.

Doug

I'll be glad to give a tour of my shop, if anybody wants to see it.

Re: Charlotte Shop Crawl?

Sure no one wants to drive to Lancaster, don't have anything to make the trip worth while, but I would like to venture along if this does happen.

I'm interested if I can work it in around my show schedule.

Some of the friendlier folks here have the noble goal of meeting as many North Carolina Woodworker'ers as possible. I have the same goal, so I can smack people over the head gently dissuade people from making disparaging remarks about their own shop !

The crawl is certainly about the shop, but it's mostly about the people! As Scott (scsmith42) put it, "when you've seen one 16" jointer, you've seen them all". Woodworking is not a competition on who has the biggest shop. It's a competition on who can cram the most tools into a small space!

Oh wait....that's not it either.

I'm sure someone knows what woodworking is all about Don't forget to share! Until then, I guess I'll just keep buying tools.

Re: Charlotte Shop Crawl?

There are as many ways to woodwork as there are woodworkers. What, how, where we woodwork are different. We can all learn from these differences. It is about the people, the shops, the community and most of all fun. It is NOT a competition.

So far the following people haave volunteered to host: thesource, Woodwrangler, shuneverno1 and PeteM. We could use 2-4 more. I am not in a hurry as there is plenty of time to plan this for the summer.

shuneverno1 has kindly agreed to help me plan this as I have no familiarity with the Charlotte area.

Doug

P.S. Sawduster made good use of the last crawl for a pony express delivery, so think about that as well.

Re: Charlotte Shop Crawl?

Everyone is welcome here but by the time we get this organized gas will be close to $4/gal! Maybe me, Tom Hintz, Eric Green and Chris Mathes could have our own Winecoff/Roberta/Harrisburg Crawl on bikes?

Re: Charlotte Shop Crawl?

You guys are welcome to stop by my place, but after seeing some of the shops from the Raleigh crawl, I'm feeling a little inadequate!

Re: Charlotte Shop Crawl?

I'm up for it, but I'm about 12 minutes off I-485 in Monroe. With all I have going on @ work, I'd like to see it done closer to June. Can't show you guys much in the way of tools, but I'm certainly hoping to have the shop itself in better shape by then. We always DID hafta do some strat'nin' up when comp'ny came over.

Re: Charlotte Shop Crawl?

Everyone:

Please send me your address by PM if you are interest in hosting. Ed I didn't see any shop dogs like yours on the crawl, so he alone will be someone to see.
