| | Annual MWTCA Meeting (Tools, tools and more tools!!!) Name: Jim Campbell City: Hillsborough State: NC County: Orange Join Date: Feb 2006 Age: 39 06-06-2009, 07:24 PM
Site Programmer I wanted to get people planning their lives around a very important evening coming up in July.
Two dates here are real important. - Early Registration, by July 18th (There is a big lunch spread, helps with the planing)
- Meeting, July 25th 7am - after lunch
If you happen to read the TWA newsletter, you will find a write up in the June 2009 Issue available online.
Here are the details Ed shared with me: The annual M-WTCA Area Q meeting is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Ed & Kathy Hobbs' farm in Raleigh. This is a great opoortunity for those of you who like traditional hand woodworking tools (also foot powered machinery and some old woodworking machinery) to get together with others that share our interest.
M-WTCA is a national association dedicated to studying, preserving and sharing knowledge of tools. We are made up of collectors, users, people who like old tools, etc., and have over 3300 members all over the US. You can find out more at www.mwtca.org
The July meeting will feature many displays, a program of interest, buying and selling of tools, coffee, soft drinks, donuts, a good old fashion BBQ lunch and an auction. There are also plans for a large "reverse auction" (all tools start out at a certain price and the price drops each hour until they are all gone) in addition to our regular auction.
Those that share our interest are welcome to attend at the guest rate. Preregistration is required to ensure we have enough food and drinks. A late registration fee is added after July 18. In 2008, we had about 280 people attending. For a registration form or additional information contact Ed at hobbsed@portbridge.com I hope to see lots of you out there. This is a good place to pick up all those wonderful old tools we frequently pine for. Pig stickers, dovetail saws, axes and maybe just maybe a few hand planes
Jim

Not sure my plans yet, wife's wedding anniversary, but if we are home I am going. If that is the case, I could house a couple travelers for a night. Non-smokers only.

per the flyer...
Our policy for guests is to allow them to attend for $15 for one time to see what goes on and to find out about the benefits of belonging to MWTCA. If you have attended as a guest before and wish to attend again as a guest you are welcome, however, you will be charged the full meeting cost of $20.
To ensure we have adequate food, beverages and facilities, we are again requiring pre-registration. Please complete the form below and send it in so it is received by July 18. To get to the farm, take Exit 299 (Lake Wheeler Rd) off of I-40/440 in Raleigh. Go out of town. You will go about 2 miles and cross over Tryon Rd. Continue on Lake Wheeler Rd for ¾ mile then turn left on Inwood Rd. Go ¾ mile and farm is on left. Please park on the road. Ed Hobbs, 4417 Inwood Rd, Raleigh, NC 27603-3315 Tele 828-2754 Email hobbsed@portbridge.com
Also, please note that there will be a $5.00 late registration fee added for anyone that has not pre-registered by July 18.

I am happy to drive or contribute to gas if someone else wants to drive. Plan to take the Tribute and that vehicle carries 4 plus me. I am scheduled on the last Phoenix-Charlotte flight of the day arriving into CLT on Friday night 7/24. In the off chance my schedule gets boogered up, I will need a backup driver as I will have to take the Redeye Friday night/Saturday morning getting into CLT at ~05:30. You'll not want to be in a car with me driving...Ain't enough coffee and nice pills in the world. .gif)

I wanted to clarify two things, and I'll repost this from time to time.
1. Please go through Ed Hobbs to get any details or information. Specifically the Pre-Registration Form. He needs it by July 18th. He's asked to be contacted directly at hobbsed@portbridge.com
2. This is a MWTCA member event. So please consider joining the MWTCA. You can get details at http://www.mwtca.org/
Thanks!
Jim

Name: Ed City: Raleigh State: NC County: Wake Join Date: Jun 2006 Avg Visit Freq/Week = 0.54 over 180 days | Re: Annual MWTCA Meeting (Tools, tools and more tools!!!) The reason we need pre-registration is to ensure we have adequite soft drinks, coffee and most of all BBQ & fried chicken and all the fix'ins for lunch. Our need to set a cut-off date to get registrations in helps us from running around at the last minute more than we have to. It also cuts down on the confusion when 280 or so people show up to pick up name tags at the door.
Anyone registering at the door is both subject to the late fee as well as being asked to go to the back of the food line. Yes, from time to time somebody who just found out about the meeting will call or something like that and we try and work with people.
Wish there was another way but human nature as it is sometimes influences how we need to do business.
Hope you all will seriously consider M-WTCA. I will have sample copies of our quarterly publication, The Gristmill for people to look at. That alone is worth the $25 membership fee. You can also visit www.mwtca.org
The reason the guest fee is less is to allow people to come one time and see if they want to be associated with us. Sort of like holding the door open for somebody new and inviting them in.
Thanks Ed |

I'd like to join MWTCA -- but all I can find is a place to mail a check to Iowa. Do they not have an option for an online payment? Can the payment be PayPal'd to someone? I don't even know if I have a stamp in my house. Dang, I must be spoiled by modern conveniences! haha |

I was in the same boat. I printed and mailed the paper application with a note that my payment was coming from my online bank.
Not only can't I find any stamps, I don't have any paper checks.

I fairly certain that your local Post Office still has stamps for sale and they sell Postal Money Orders, too. Come on, be adventuresome and join M-WTCA the old fashioned way! After all, it is all about old tools! I've been a member for 3 years and I will be sending my check to Ed as soon as possible.
P.S. Ed: Was there a normal mailing about this Q Meeting? I got one for the National Meeting, but do not recall getting one for the July BBQ at your place.
