  • Provide localized information for the buying and selling of woodworking related items.
  • Provide Website Hosting for our member's woodworking related websites

  • Provide other services that further the above goals.
Who are we?
  • NC residents who have an interest in woodworking ranging from the beginner to the custom builder.
Some of the services provided:
  • Discussion forums
  • Each member has the option of having a Photo Album where they control the access, content and organization.
  • Public photo albums that any member may upload to.
  • All photos may be linked to, for the purpose of display on another site.
  • Each member may request bulk photo upload privileges.
  • A non-commercial Member Buy and Sell
  • Commercial selling targeted to our members.
  • Announcement of events
  • Calendar of events of interest to our members
  • A directory of Web Links and/or contact information that further our overall goals.
  • A Download library of woodworking plans, Tips and Tricks, etc.
  • Each member may request their own email address in the form <username>@ncwoodworker.net (supply is limited)
  • Other specialized services that time, space, and the interest of our members may dictate
Other Member Types and services (These are accepted as a service to help our regular members):
  • Woodworking organizations that are NC based or have NC chapters. Members may simply identify themselves as belonging to a specific organization or the organization may request formal recognition of their organization and then control who may identify themselves as members.
Organizations may also request website hosting either as their primary or an extension site for their organization and/or request that any of our standard services provide organization specific sub functions, for example, an organization specific, discussion forums(s) or Photo Gallery. (Control, design, and content are the member’s responsibility; ncwoodworker supplies the space and the hooks.)
  • Commercial Members may also join our site for the purpose of informing our other members of products and services for sale in North Carolina. They may also post their Web links and/or contact info. Additionally, we hope that you will inform our membership of special sales and/or special discounts available to our members.

I would really like all our members to comment on this post. This will become our our official "mission statement" (even though I hate that phrase). Once I am statisfied with it, I will be sending it out as part of a drive to increase our active membership and content.

Please feel free to comment on any aspect, from grammer, to content, to presentation, to agreeing or disagreeing with portions of the statement.
Remember, that this site belongs to you and must meet your needs.

Even if you a new member, please feel free to comment.

After I feel that we have tuned this enough. I will strip the replies and have the edited initial post become a permenant announcement.

Steve

"For example, a member’s specific, discussion forums(s) or Photo Gallery(s) (Control, design, and content are the member’s responsibility; ncwoodworker supplies the space and the hooks."
The only flaw I could find is the lack of closing parenthesis after "hooks" in this sentence. I had to hunt for that. It looks good, I like it. Dave\\/

Thanks, I can't believe my wife missed something in a proof read:

Do you feel that this is what we want this site to be and the extra services that I am proposing will indeed help attract new members.

BTW, I will be posting why I want to attract new members later tonight or tomorrow.

I found the "mission statement" quite complete and it sounds good. I will be interested in finding out more about the sub-site capabilities. I have a Frontpage type application that I have been wanting to try for some time, but did not want to commit to a domain name and web hosting fee if I would not be able to have enough time. But creating a base site and then uploading/updating sounds pretty intriguing.

The foremost concern I have is if the commercial members will be able to get to our personal email accounts. : The one I provided is my "spam free" one, and if there is a possibility it would be used to send targeted offers, I will need to change it ASAP.

The other thing I will do to help promote this site is add a link to the email notification of the Triangle Woodworker's Association newsletter for a while. That will allow some of our folks to come on by and check out the site. I also think the best approach to tie in with the TWA website is to talk with our web master about it. I will contact him and see if we can get an exchange of ideas. As you and I have discussed the best case is to have an active site with a number of folks participating. For my part, I will see what I can do to get this site more exposure.

Steve,

I very much appreciated the no banner/ no ad position but, as was mentioned already, I would also like to insure that my email does not receive spam mail. I did not catch any grammatical, spelling, etc errors.

Personally, I'd like to "thank you" for your help in making the posting of pix so easy compared with other sites.
