User Titles are being played with. They may disappear and re-appear as something that has no meaning. Please be patient.

The problem is that we have always used the term "Member". Unfortunetly, that term will have to be reserved for members of the Corporation. Will you have the opportunity to become Members of the Corporation? YES. But how, has not yet been decided.

You certainly can provide an opinion in this thread, if you wish. If fact you opinions and ideas on this subject will be appreciated. Advisory Panel, please DO NOT post here, but in the AP forum.

OK, what does being a member get you? Over simplistic. The right to vote for the Board of Directors and with enough votes of members, oust any Director or all of them. In other words, you can by your votes set the direction and policies of North Carolina Woodworker, Inc. and through it, this web site

I just did something and don't know how I did it. I went to 'toolman's' post and clicked on Quote. I added my response and clicked Enter. What came back up was toolman's post with deletions and my comments. I didn't want to change his post but somehow I did. Can this be corrected by any of the Moderators???

George

As I look back and contemplate, it appears that somehow my fingers had a mind of their own and they guided the mouse to Edit instead of Quote. My apologies to Toolman. I will discipline my fingers appropriately.

Since this is the friendliest woodworking site on the web why not use the title "friend" for users ? I understand the need to differentiate corporate members. As a former labor union executive I saw that a competing union had 2 categories of participants. "Members" with voting rights, and "friends" who either were ineligible to join or chose not to and did not have voting priveliges. If I understand correctly the corporate board is not trying to create "classes" of forum users but rather just reserve the "member" title for members of North Carolina Woodworker Inc.

Using the stats box as an example:

I kinda like that. But, the two categories should not be mutually exclusive. The people who are members would still be friends! Of course, we should avoid classifications such as friends with benefits, special friends, imaginary friends etc.

Perhaps "comrade" would be better When you think about it - we share our expertise, give away our spare tools, notify one another about deals, all free of charge. OK, strike that. Maybe in 20-30 years or so.

But I do like the friendship idea. As Tracy's (newtowood - pending) sig states: Making friends one post a a time.

George you Delete me!! Hit any key
That is ok!!! As for as "If we want to vote we must pay $10. each." the $10. is my dues for the Band Boosters, Not that I want to pay $$$ here for Status. But I would if I had to, and be happy to do so.

I believe the status here on this site would give you the right to vote for the Board of Directors " As Steve put it - The right to vote for the Board of Directors and with enough votes of members, oust any Director or all of them. In other words, you can by your votes set the direction and policies of North Carolina Woodworker, Inc. and through it, this web site" and that is all, the site would stay the same for all member, as it is now. I believe that Steve wants this site to be here for years and years.
I was in a hunting club 10 years ago the dues was $400. To rich for me. But this site cost $$$, to keep is site up and run we may need the donations to run, and that donation would give you the status as a supporter and be able to vote on corporation matters.
Keep in mine 2 months ago you did not see ads on this site. And now the ads we have are great only just 2 or 4 on the pages. The cnc programing site I am on have 9 to 10 per post and are in the post ( post 1, 2, the ad, 3,4, ad, and so on, I hate it. But we done have that here just 2 on top and 2 on the side. I hope it is making $$$ for this site.
I need to go.

Just my .02

The lawyer said that if possible to stay away from the use of member, except for corporate members. He said that it is not required, but usually better.
Actually, my biggest problem is how to make the name changes, rather than what they should be. vBulletin doesn't think of things the way we do

Can't everyone get the title Friends and a user group set up to be Members which would be the corporate members? A change in ACP under phrase manager may handle it?

It's funny, I believe in democracy, but this site has worked out just fine being run run by a king. I have fear that too many decision makers will cause problems and maybe even anarchy.

Anyway, as Harpo Marx once said - "I don't care to belong to any club that will have me as a member"

It's too bad things have to change, but " the only thing that remains constant is change"
