Well, I see that some of you have discovered the new thread prefixes. This is a built in feature of vBulletin 3.7 that I just enabled. I'm still playing with that. They don't show up everywhere they should becuase of the heavy customization we have in some places. But I'll get it there soon.
We really need a bigger selection. I just put up a few to see how the feature works. So how about you all make some suggestions, please.

Thanks

Thanks Not within the packaged mod, but I might be able to cobble something together. But first, I'd like to see what the results of the poll are.

Does the user select his/her choice from a list when they start a new thread? More info please...

IF the decision is to remove the feature from general use, they will be probably be used for certain forums to help the staff. For instance, Help Desk already uses another less flexiable version of the same thing. Originally Posted by McRabbet I'm a little confused about them -- when and how do they get added to a thread? I think it makes all the titles look to similar so that it is actually harder to find a particular thread.
I also think it takes away the surprise element that some try to use.
I tried to post a new thread and it wouldn't let me continue until I selected a prefix. So, I deleted the thread. I don't like to be forced to conform.
Maybe that is changed now. |

that being said, I usually read all of the posts anyway. I guess if you pick and choose then they might help you in your endeavor.
IMHO,
Jimmy

Maybe that is changed now. Mike, they were NOT supposed to be mandatory in the forums I selected for the test. BUT, you are correct. It seems that that the default setting for mandatory is ON, just the opposite of what I thought it was. I just went into each forum involved in this test and changed the setting to not mandatory
But, be advised that when this test is done, and if the general use of the prefixes is discarded, there will be some forums that will have the thread prefix option enabled and in most of those cases, the prefix will be mandatory. That is becuase the use of prefixes will be more to help the staff quickly deal with issues. The Help Desk will probably be one of them, if another method can't be found.

However, I will almost certainly be used for certain information and help forums were it either helps the staff or where it will be used to bring certain threads to your attention.

Name: Will Goodwin City: Raleigh State: NC County: Wake Join Date: Jan 2008 Age: 35 Avg Visit Freq/Week = 1.01 over 180 days | Personally I like them. The colors alert me to what the thread is about (sometimes I don't have enough time to read them all, so I go right for certain ones) and then I read the title.
When I do have time, I read certain ones first and then go back, so again, this helps me. I am a visual person though (pretty colors, shiny tools ).
If you want, I can start writing a mod that would incorporate Jeff's idea (show them if you want). I'll just need some place to test.
