Steve, I think the statement is well-written and should clarify questions in the minds of anyone applying for membership.

I was born in 'Bama. It's a lot easier to tell when people are from there because no one who isn't ever claims to be.
Cathy - The 'Bama jokes are just as bad as the WV ones; I heard there is one guy that is his own father...

So many people move here from elsewhere (guilty as charged but over 15 years ago) it would be hard to quiz people fairly. The only NC natives I know really well are the four I am raising. I guess you could just tell applicants you trust them and if they think that's unusual, they must not live here.

Andy,

I grew up in Tuscaloosa. Only Bama natives and football fans know where that is.

I also moved here around 15 years ago. But, I did have an early connection to NC, my great aunt and uncle lived in Ashville and I used to spend summers with them when I was very young.

This is a very unusual web site in the fact that many of the people have met and do get together often. That keeps us civil, friendly and helpful.

I know this is not a change in policy but it is a good reminder and it is important to keep it up front so everyone knows how much we care about the relationships formed here.

How do I retrieve my forgotten password?

If I sign out, I'll not be able to sign back in.

Archie

If you've forgotten your password, send one of us (me, DaveO or SteveColes) a PM before you logout, and we can reset it for you. The you should go to "Edit your Profile" and change it to one that you can remember. None of us charge too much for this service....

I guess that will work most of the time and with honest folk. But if someone really wants in... They will provide whatever factitious information necessary to defunct the residency policy.

There's really no good way to verify residency, short of IP tracing which is really not all that reliable since it's all to easy to spoof. A malicious person is not going to just log into the internet and fill out a form truthfully I would think the person would assume an undetectable identity.

Just a thought

I'm glad I got accepted when outsiders could still get in. My Brother-in-law lives in NC and I'm partial to y'alls mountains and cool weather.

It only takes a brief time of hearing me speak to know that i am not a native North Carolinian, but don't tell.
