I just heard from Scott about his needs for help. He needs help this Sat(5th) and Sun(6th). This first will NOT be the glamorous "barn raising". It will be nasty, dirty clean up. I would advise than anyone coming bring some form of breathing particle filter. If you have any serious respiratory problems, I would recommend that you not come or find some tasks that will keep you away from the search & sort inside the structure. I personally will be using a either full face cartridge filter type of mask or a half face version of the same with goggles.

Here is what Scott had to say about his needs:
I can probably use 6 - 8 people or so each day; some sorting through the rubble inside and bringing it out, and a few more some sorting through it on tables outside and placing identifiable scraps in ziploc bags, etc.

As I mentioned before, my biggest need is to retrieve, identify and log anything from the rubble that can assist me with the insurance claim. the second need will be to separate what needs to go to the landfill versus what can be safely burned/burried. Example - roof shingles will go into the dumpster; wood siding and 2 x 4's can go to the burn pile (thus saving some dump fees).
I am attaching a poll which can act as a sign up sheet.
PLEASE DON'T MISUNDERSTAND THIS POLL WILL ACCEPT MULTIPLE SELECTIONS. YOU CAN SIGN UP FOR ALL 4 HALF DAYS

Scott will probably add more info tomorrow.

Will - I hope that your wife recovers completely and quickly. That's a painful injury.

Steve, good luck with your neck problem. I've been there and know how painful that it can be.

Scott - if you need more help please let me know - I'm very sorry but completely ran out of gas today after lunch and was not much good after that. I had to stop for some coffee on the way home because I just about nodded off on my way up US1. That jalapeño pepper cleaned out my sinuses which had been bugging me for over a week and at the same time made be quite sleepy - what was in that pepper?

Scott,

I've been rather tied up with a few surprises here and just caught the thread today (Sunday).

I'm committed to other obligations all this week, but if you can use more help later (next week or later) please let me know.

If anyone would would like to carpool from the Graham/Burlington area, I have room to carry 5-6 (depending on tonnage)

Hi All.

What an INCREDIBLE weekend! Because of the very generous help of the NCWoodworkers, we have completed about 90% of the fire cleanup and inventory work. As it stands, we're in a pretty good position to have the remaining inventory work and demolition completed by tomorrow evening (presuming that the weather cooperates).

I haven't added it up, but do know that there are over 1000 individual items that we have dug out, cleaned up, identified, catalogued, and boxed up. WOW.

I cannot thank the volunteers enough for the generosity and assistance. My only regret is that we did not shoot some photos of today's crew (we did get some on Saturday); I guess that we were so busy focusing on cleanup activities that it slipped our mind.

It was great to meet so many fellow woodworkers. If there is a silver lining to the fire, it was to experience firsthand the wonderful volunteer spirit that exists amongst this community. You have my heartfelt gratitude; I will not forget your kindness.

Scott

I know, "No pix - didn't happen", so here's the Saturday "Cleanup Crew"

Scott, that is great. I am sorry I was unable to make it as promised. I will do everything in my power to help with the next event. Just let us know when that is going to take place.
