Thanks to all who helped make the gathering a success! It was a great time. The woodworking show is not as big as the Charlotte show usually would be (but there is no Charlotte show this year), but it's still worthwhile. The gathering is the main event, of course!

Some quick highlights from the show....

  1. mmmm.... barbecue!!!
  2. lots of good fun and fellowship
  3. lots of interest in the web site from show visitors
  4. total of 16 pens turned at the pen-turning demo - with even more to be contributed by some show visitors who wanted to help out!
  5. many people got some "goodies", including free cups and hats (courtesy of Steve) and some cool SlickSaw stuff (courtesy of PeteM)
  6. fantastic display of some of the fine craftsmanship of the members of NC Woodworker
  7. an exclusive "sneak preview" of the all-new gallery collection of cskipper trivets
  8. Steve was spotted actually doing woodworking!!!
  9. and of course, NO ONE was able to resist playing DaveO's bongo box!!!

Special thanks to Klingspor for providing the space, and to Micromesh for their donation of a couple of Micromesh starter kits to help with the pen turning event.

Pics to follow... I'm too tired right now...

Thanks for Monty and all for coordinating the event! Good food and great fellowship. I had a great time - meeting new folks and visiting with those I already knew. All in all, a delightful day!

I really enjoyed myself. The food was great and meeting friends old and new was the highlight. I am glad I was finally able to turn a pen to contribute to the effort. To all those that I met, too many to name individually...I'm a slow typist, It was great to meet you, and a honor to to put a face with the name. Thanks to all that came out and made it a great afternoon.

Attempts at carving, the Red-Tailed Hawk carving that won the 3rd place wasn't an attempt, it was a success. I got home and that was the first thing I told my wife about. The level of detail you put into that piece was astounding. Beautiful work, period!!
BTW, it was very nice to meet you

Okay, Cathy -- I uploaded some pictures -- see the new Klingspor Extravaganza 2006 category in the Photo Gallery for more pictures, but here are a few:

Monty takes his "Turn" Roger (Sapwood) and Mark (Tarhead) exchange war stories

David Fenton's beatiful coffee table Cathy discussing her Trivets

Chris Mathes turns a pen Some of DaveO's beautiful work

We all sure had fun!

We did have a good day there Jeff!! I finally got to meet a few more of the members and see some of there work that has been shown on the site. The pictures just do no do justice to the examples of their work. I did get to talk to Michael Brown and see his beautiful chairs-----he is a master craftsman.

The food was excellent--------many thanks to Monty, John and any others that worked to put the event together. It was indeed an enjoyable day. We even got to see a lot of toys...........er tools.

Hugs and applause for all who came and mostly for the hard work by Monty, Clay, Steve, John, the Klingspor folks and other "unknown" contributors. The Hickory members did an awesome job of providing fun, food, and a great venue for NCWWers. A wonderful reunion and a few new faces matched up (Gregg, Greybeard, Jerry, April, Chris, et. al.). And it was free!!!!

Hope everyone returned safely.
BTW WG, when do I get the Krenov plane . . . I bought 3 raffle tickets

Appreciatively,
Roger

I had a great time. I do hope that everyone that wanted a turn at the lathe actually got a turn. We had a signup sheet, but it turned out that the lathes were never idle (cept for lunch) and if someone felt like turning they did get to. I think it was a big success, and fun was made by all. I think we got some people that wanted to try get their chance.

You'd have to fight for it from the winner of the plane. LOL A very nice woman won the ticket and was present. She was really excited about it and the upcoming classes she signed up for. Folks coming to the finishing class will meet the lucky winner.

The show was awsome and I had a great time although wore myself out pretty good. I knew I was getting tired when I was doing my dovetail demo and was seeing two lines. I just sawed down the middle of them. LOL.

The gathering was awsome!!!!!!!! I only got to stick around for about an hour because I was getting a lot of traffic by the class area and had lots of folks asking questions and wanting more info on classes. I did get to stick around and take a seat in Jerry's Windsor's and see Cathy's table-o-scrolling. Everyone's projects looks first rate!!!!!!! I wish I could have mingled around more to get to talk with everyone in person.

Let's give it up for Monty!!!!!!!!! He did an awsome job on the arrangements, pen kits, food, and even dinner friday night. April and I had a great time out to dinner with Monty and his wife and Steve and his wife. I can't remember a better time. I'm glad we decided to go. I was out like a light about 10 minutes after getting home though.

If only we could do this more often. I'm up for a gathering in China if anyone wants to come on over. LOL!!!!

I'll process my pics too and get them up soon.

Thanks,

John
