Schedule:
The contest schedule is:
Entry submissions start August 5th
Entry submission ends August 23rd
Voting will start on August 29th
Voting will end on September 9th

Submissions:
Please remember that this is primarily a Photo Contest, therefore, only photos that can be made to fit within the size and resolution requirements will be accepted.
Also remember the contest reflects your wood working and photo skills.

During this period of entry submissions, it may be found that certain pictures do not work at all. If the picture does not work, the submitter will be notified and given a chance to make the proper corrections. But the period will be short. Additionally, if there are not enough individual submissions in a category to have a meaningful vote, then some categories may be combined. This decision will be made by the BoD on the basis of what we think is best for the calendar.

Submission Rules:
All pictures must be submitted with a description that is suitable for inclusion in the calendar.
You can not submit an entry that has won in a previous calendar contest.
Each picture must be capable of being re-sized and/or cropped into a picture that is 8 1/4" high and 11.5" wide and maintain at least a resolution of 200 dpi but 300 dpi would be considered ideal. At that size, there must be 1/2" border that could be trimmed off without cutting off any of the project image.
Do not lower the resolution of your images, please submit them at the highest resolution that you can.
Do not upconvert your pictures resolution.
You may submit as many pictures as you want in as many categories as you wish. However, after voting has ended, if you have won more than 1 prize, only one prize will be awarded, in one category, and only that picture will be published. You will receive the prize for the highest level prize you have won. But the BoD members who have NOT entered the contest will decide which winning pictures are shown in which categories.
The staff reserves the right to move entries into what they feel is the proper category
The staff reserves the right to return any pictures that do not meet the size and quality requirements or deem inappropriate for our calendar.
COVER SUBMISSIONS - The entries will be the same as other years. They must cover a 9" high by 11.5" wide area at, at least 200 DPI, but 300 DPI would be better. The cover should composited so that a 1/4" border will NOT be displayed due to full bleed printing.

Voting:
After the close of the submissions, all photos will be re-reviewed to ensure they meet the qualifications.
Voting will be done by the membership.
The entry with the most votes in each category will be declared the winner.
NO member may vote for their own entry.

Just trying to help But I have been looking at the entries and I have noticed that there are some good looking pictures in the contest so far but the sizes are not up to par -and some are in "picture format" you might want to check yours and see -

I was just looking at the entries and you are right, I think that there are pictures of some great work, but doing a quick scan of the pictures, I see only one picture that is usable.

Please remember that I am NOT involved the calendar contest this year, so what I am saying has no official standing, but I think I am correct. i wish a had a few words of wisdom that would help, but in the 3 years I and/or Monty did these we never found a way to expain the requirements any better than ScottM did.

So I suggest those of you who want to enter the contest, please re-read very carefully the requirements an see if your picture(s) meet the needs. If you don't understand them, just ask for clarification in this thread or ask a friend that understands the issues.

Re: IT IS HERE. The NCWW 2010 Calendar Contest

Scott,
I have up loaded two updated photos to the calender contest, one by mistake, the original that was to small and one I want to submit. How do I delete two of the photos that I do not need? I updated the photo to the size I think you need. Hope you can help.

Re: IT IS HERE. The NCWW 2010 Calendar Contest

Scott, The photo that I submitted of my granddaughter on her rocking horse is only 1024 x 809. Your requirements of 200 dpi min. can not be reached as the photo was taken with an older digital camera. Could I photoshop a group of photos, all rocking horse, that would meet your higher dpi requirements? phil

Re: IT IS HERE. The NCWW 2010 Calendar Contest

My problem is that even in the Raw native resolutions some of my pics are not anywhere near that size. If you try and blow them up you run the risk of degrading picture quality.

Re: IT IS HERE. The NCWW 2010 Calendar Contest

Kevin,

Could you meet me somewhere near G'boro/Kernesville or come up to my home and shoot your pictures over with my camera?

I'd be happy to help any way that I can.

Re: IT IS HERE. The NCWW 2010 Calendar Contest

Go ahead and remove mine. I'm not a photographer, and my camera only has 3 resolution settings. I'll try to post larger pictures later.

I appreciate the offer unfortunately several of those pens are no longer in my possession. I am working on another Fountain Pen that if I can get it done in time I might take you up on that.

Re: IT IS HERE. The NCWW 2010 Calendar Contest

Scott, I am sorry to be so dense but I think I need something cleared up. You stated that all photos must be at least 200 dpi and 8.25 high by 11.5 wide which I think translates to 1650 pixels by 2300 pixels. Should all photos that have been submitted that are less than the above be removed from the gallery/contest?

Re: IT IS HERE. The NCWW 2010 Calendar Contest

I am sorry for all the fuss but if the picture is too small or the quality is not right it will not make a calendar page. These are not my rules but the vendors. I will be reviewing photo's starting tonight. I will notify you either way. If you know your photo is not right please delete it now and repost. If you have issues uploading them then send me a PM and I will give you my email ID.

Hang in there folks. No one has died as the result of the calendar contest and I promise no one will die this time either.

Re: IT IS HERE. The NCWW 2010 Calendar Contest

Just uploaded a picture that was 2300 x 1800 pixel--------------after uploading the properties say it is 800 x 626.

Am I doing something wrong or is it OK for the contest?

Jerry
