Senior Moderator Events Director I know no pictures = it did not happen but Pete301 did not take the slide down the slippery slop. So to remove all temptation for Pete the goodwill lathe has been turned over to RCFLYER23 (Kevin). He was the runner up in the last selection cycle. Please welcome Kevin to the darkness. Have fun Kevin.

Steve has since slide all the way down the slippery SLOPE, and decided to make the GWL a rotating "gift." Every 6 months (at the most) the membership is asked if they would like to be a recipient of the GWL. The BoD picks one name and the GWL is handed off. It comes with a full set of accessories and turning tools. Many members are willing to make themselves available for instructions as well.
In this way North Carolina Woodworker, Inc. can pass on the addiction to all thing round.
Just thought that since we have so many new members, we should provide the background.

I have already made a couple of bowls with it and can tell you that I am hooked on the bigger stuff. I will have pics of the setup soon The family has been sick all week so I haven't had much of a chance to do anything with it unfortunately but I can hear it calling my name. I have some bowl blanks on the way from ebay so I am hoping they will be here this weekend or early next week. Thanks again.

Have fun with the lathe, but be forewarned, most who get a hold of that tool end up buying their own!

It's interesting how therapeutic it is. A lot of my turning lately is just making rough splits into round blanks that I hope to make into wind instruments when they dry. That should be monotonous and boring. Sometimes I do a vase, HF or bowl to break it up but not really because I am bored but more because some of the pieces don't seem like they will be good woodwind blanks. I could turn cylinders all day long.
Kevin,
You should start trying to get some fresh wood, if you haven't already. Usually very cheap if not free and easy to turn. Just get some end sealer and a saw (I just have an electric chainsaw and bum time on others' big bandsaws, leaving some of what I cut as thanks) and you will have blanks up to your eyeballs before you know it.
Robert,
Then it goes like this:
Muskie: But these here are my pet fish. They live in the crick and I just call them to me and then carry them around in the bucket so they can see stuff on land.
Deputy Dawg: That's the craziest thing I ever heard.
Muskie: I'll show you. (pours fish back into the water).
Deputy Dawg: OK, now call the fish back.
Muskie: What fish? |
