Tree Removal--I need help bigtime!

Where I plan to build my shop there are 2 large trees that would need to come down.

I live in the Parkwood area of Durham, and I was wondering if any of you guys had advice as to how to get rid of these trees. Do you know of anyone who works cheap at removing trees? Is it possible that someone would do it for free in exchange f or the wood?

I don't know if any of it would be usable lumber or not, but if someone would just get the trees out for me they could have the wood. Any ideas?

Also, I have a beautiful (but much smaller) tree that looks like a Japanese maple that is in the way of extending my drive way. I could get rid of this one myself, but I hate to just drop a nice tree. Do you know of any landscaping companies that would extract the tree and use it? Thanks for the info guys

Re: Tree Removal--I need help bigtime!

Marco, I highly doubt that you're gonna find somebody to take down the trees for the wood. Two problems with that, urban timber is often full of metal, and the value of a log isn't that great compared to the labor (and possible problems) associated with taking down a tree.
I can put you in touch with the Arborist I use for work. He is very reasonable and extremely talented. But you would be looking at a minimum of $800 for those trees if they were simple drop and flop, more if they needed to be climbed an taken down in sections.
I also can put you in touch with a tree spade company that might be able to re-located the Jap Maple if the access was good, and they could get the spade around it. Again that wouldn't be free, but with the cost of large Jap Maples, you might be able to find a retailer interested in buying it and that would help offset the cost of having it dug.

Jap Maple makes great turning wood

Give me a call on Monday if you would like more information or any of my contact's numbers 422-2760

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

See if any of your neighbors have trees they'd like taken out. The company I used basically charged me by the half day. A tree more or less didn't make a difference. There is a lot of time involved in getting all the equipment out there, so bulk work can definitely save money.

Marco,
If it's hardwood, I would be more than happy to block and haul away some of your problem. However, I'm neither qualified nor insured to drop trees that may damage property or people

Truck and chainsaw are standing by for free firewood and I'm nearby and conveniently located

Bas, that is a very good point. The cost that I quoted was for a half days work. One tree or five, it will cost the same due to the logistics of mobilization.

When it comes to having someone, anyone, drop a tree(s) on your property: "Insurance comes first, price comes second."

I hate to admit that, but it's true.......

If you have not found anyone, I used

Underwood Tree Services 643-2445. There in North Durham/Hillsborough

They took out a quite a few trees in the neighborhood. As a matter of fact, when they took them out of my yard they left the yard so clean I didn't even know they had been there. My Daughter had to tell me.

Re: Tree Removal--I need help bigtime!

Be aware that a good-sized Japanese Maple is worth a lot of dough. I've seen postings (can't remember if it was fleabay or CL) for them at over $1k!

Some landscapers/nurseries have these huge digger-thingies that can come down and take one of these puppies out fairly easily.

You might be able to pay for your big tree removal by selling the JA maple.

Re: Tree Removal--I need help bigtime!

Wow. After reading this I feel like I got a bargain. I had 7 red oaks that ringed the rear and side of my yard that I wanted removed. The first place I called came out and gave me an estimate of $3400. I almost choked. I only paid $3600 to get the entire space cleared and leveled for my shop! Anyway, they said it was because all but two of them would have to be taken down in sections. I called another guy and he gave me a price of $800 if I cleaned up the brush and he keep the wood. SOLD! He climbed every one and took logs down in sections with rope, working with one man on the ground.

Had four of the stumps ground, but I can't remember the cost on that.
