I've been looking around for a bandsaw, and keep finding deal online where the seller will ship to a loading dock for 7 or 8 dollars.

How do people take advantage of that? Are there loading docks I can have a saw shipped to where I can then pick it up? It sure does save a lot of money!

Thanks,

Todd

I moved your thread to the How Do I... Forum where it is more appropriate. My suggestion would be to contact the selling company and ask their Customer Service folks -- tell them that you live in the Durham/Raleigh area of NC and can they recommend a shipping company that they use with a depot or warehouse in the area. I doubt you'll find one in Hillsborough or Chapel Hill, but you could include them as well.

Yes Todd,
Companies such as UPS Freight, Express Freight, and Overnight Freight operate docks, and probably have one near you. Check the yellowpages for freight companies. Good luck

I recommend picking up any freight shipment from the main terminal, verses having in reloaded onto a local carrier and then having to wait around for them to deliver. I've picked up all my Grizzly machines at the freight terminal in Durham, it's right near the intersection of 85 and 15/501, I believe it is where Overnite runs out of.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Whatever freight company is used to ship the product will have freight terminals scattered across the country.

Call the seller and ask them who they use/can use for freight and then check with those freight carriers to see where their closest terminal is located, relative to you.

Do you have any family members or friends that work for your local Pepsi, Coke, Budweiser, Miller, etc. distributing companies? They all have "no touch" freight docks and warehouse supervisors that can sign for deliveries.

Just a thought.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the information. I will call the dealers and look into what companies they use for shipping. Then I'll do a search around Durham to see if I can find a local dock.

I wasn't sure if shipping to a loading dock meant it had to go to the commercial shipper's own dock, or if maybe they would simply back up to one of the University's loading docks and drop off the package for me there.

Sounds like a local dock in Durham may work since that's what DaveO did. When I factor in the discounts, taxes, my avoiding driving time, and $70 to 100 for shipping, I can save a couple of hundred dollars and wind up with a nicer piece of equipment!

I appreciate you guys explaining this to me.

Todd
