Morris Chair Plans

I recently scored a hundred bdft of QSWO (a couple of slabs are curly QSWO) and wanted to build an Arts and Crafts Morris Chair. I'm looking for plans...does anyone have any suggestions where I could get a really good set of plans (would also like to have the ottoman with it).

Thanks,
Dan C.

Re: Morris Chair Plans

Dan, Volume 26 / No. 155 of Woodsmith magazine features exactly what you are asking for ... chair and ottoman.

Re: Morris Chair Plans

There is a gentleman in Huntersville named Gil Milsap that makes beautiful Morris Chairs out of qs white and red oak. Very nice guy and would probably give you some pointers if you need any.

Re: Morris Chair Plans

Dan:

I built a couple of Morris chairs using the plans Jim referred you to. If I did it again I'd probably take a different approach for the cushions, but I'm satisfied with the appearance of the wood.

Re: Morris Chair Plans

Hey Guys,

I found the Woodsmith plans and they look pretty good. I was also refered to FWW #100 for another set of plans. I'll need to plow through some boxes for this issue.

There seems to be a lot of different interpretations of the original Stickley design out there. I suspect I'll pick the best of each plan I come across and build yet another interpretation. Thanks for the help a and advice.

Re: Morris Chair Plans

I built one a few years ago and it looks exactly like the link. I'm with Charles, my back cushion is 4" thick like the link and if I had it to do over, I would have gone with 2"-2 1/2" like the origionals. It was an interesting project and you'll be amazed at how comfortable it is. Good luck.
