Looking for Honduras Mahogany

Hi, I am looking for a board of honduras mahogany that is 8/4 thick at least 14" wide and in any 20" interval long (i.e. 20" 40" 60"...) I am located in Raleigh but would be willing to travel a few hours to get this... thanks

Re: Looking for Honduras Mahogany

I would recommend Wall Lumber, which is about 40 minutes north of Greensboro in Mayodan. Best supplier of wood in NC (I have driven there from Hendersonville to buy exotics even though it is over 400 miles round trip).

Re: Looking for Honduras Mahogany

Jonny you might give Klingspors a call. When I was last there they had some really nice 8/4 Genuine Mahogany. I am not sure they had it as wide as you are needing, but a phone call is easy 919-876-0707

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: Looking for Honduras Mahogany

Jacksons in Fuquay has the sizes you are looking for. You can also try Eastwake Hardwoods.

Re: Looking for Honduras Mahogany

Johnny - By the dimensions in your post, I assume you are looking for body blanks? I've been searching for Honduran Mahogany as well with no luck. I called several hardwood suppliers and they all told me they hadn't seen Honduras in several years.

I visited the Hardwood Store in Gibsonviile and got a beautiful piece of African Mahogany (~24 wide X 100 long) to cut body blanks from. The properties of African are very similar to Honduran but cant vouch for the sonic properties as I havent completed an instrument from this wood (yet)!

Not saying you wont find it, just that I've struck out so far.

PM if you want to talk guitars sometime.
