looking for a deep throat pipe clamp

I am looking for a deep throat pipe clamp.
It needs to be at least 9 inches deep. I have found several 7 inch deep clamps but nothing that is 9 inches. I have pictured the 7 inch version below so you can see what I'm looking for. Can anyone help me find this critter. I have looked at all my usuall haunts with no luck.

Thanks
mark

Re: looking for a deep throat pipe clamp

You give depty, but how much of an opening do you need?

I personally got a Bessey awhile back from amazon that has a 24" throat but only opens 20".

Re: looking for a deep throat pipe clamp

Travis,
If I can find a pipe type clamp with a nine inch depth, I'll cut a pipe to fit my needs but if it comes as a completed unit, I only need about 12-14 inches of travel.

I will check, but I MAY have a set of four. I am not sure that they are 9 inches though, but I will check and get back to you. If I remember correctly mine are Pony brand.

Re: looking for a deep throat pipe clamp

You might look for these Bessey clamps. http://www.toolking.com/besseyclamps_cds-20-12wp.aspx

I have a set with a slighly smaller reach and they are my most used clamps in the shop.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: looking for a deep throat pipe clamp

I've seen some deep jaw pipe clamps at Harbor Freight but they're not on their web site. Not sure how deep they are. I have a pair very deep jaw(~20"?), 24" long bar clamps. You're welcome to borrow if you want. PM me and we can get together after I get back from traveling.

Re: looking for a deep throat pipe clamp

Mark,
My need for these clamps is for a work related project that will require us to have these clamps for future use. Your offer to borrow a set is most appreciated but we really need to own them and we will need 8 sets of them to make this work.
Thanks anyway.

Re: looking for a deep throat pipe clamp

Mark
Would it be possible to drill and tap the jaw face on 6" or 7" clamps and secure a plate that would extend to the length you need? I have done that several times and it seemed to work for me. Also, is it possible to place a clamp on the top and one on the bottom that would provide enough force between the jaws to hold whatever you need to clamp?
Just trying to think through your problem without knowing exactly what you are trying to do.
Jim in Mayberry
ps. my clamps are not 9", and I could only loan them.

Re: looking for a deep throat pipe clamp

Jim,
I am only finding the 7 inch version so far as well and i am starting to go down the mental path you started by trying to figure out how to use the 7 inch version.
I came up with a plan to make metal bar extentions that will extend the across the face of my clamping requirment and extend out another 1 1/2 inches on either side. This will allow the 7 inch clamps to exert pressure on the clamping surface with enough force to get the job done. I am just a firm believer in the right tool for the right job. That said, look at my last project solution.
