I'm new to the area, recently moved to Raleigh from Minnesota. I'm starting to run out of my stash and I need to find new places to get lumber. I'm gearing up to make a few sets of Adirondack chairs for gifts and wondering where I could find Cedar. Looking for 4/4 and 8/4 boards, roughly 6" wide. I looked out on the website link for "wood suppliers". I see Capital City Lumber which is close and from their web page appears they carry Cedar. However I'm looking for what fellow woodworkers in the area use as their go to suppliers.

This is my first post, but I have read quite a bit. This is an awesome site with a lot of great knowledge, experience, and fun.

I would first check with Klingspor or East Wake Hardwoods before giving up my first born to Capital City. But before that I would check with either Jeff... or Saw4you to see if they have any cedar available. Another thing to consider is using Cypress, and then I would get in touch with Ivey, as he can hook you up.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Welcome, Brian. Follow Dave's advice.....unless he is trying to hook you up with woodturning.

I have a nice load of big cedar coming in next week, I do have some right now. I also have cypress. I should be getting logs big enough to get 1x12 all heart.

Are you looking for aromatic cedar or the variety that is used for siding and shingles?

I want to thank all that posted to my quest for Cedar. This is certainly a great group who offered both good advice and great alternatives/suggestions. I will follow up with a few of you outside this thread.

saw4you, thanks for responding...

I'm not looking for a whole lot. What I need is about 96 BdFt of 8/4 stock and 96 BdFt of 4/4 stock. In either case 6 in width is fine. Can be Cypress or Cedar, I'm open. This will be used for Adirondack chairs that I'm either going to leave natural or coat w/ a water repellent oil finish (tbd).

I see from your profile you are in Raleigh as well?

Bryan White Oak may be easier to find and is great for outdoor stuff it'll last a long long time. Whatever wood you use just make sure you use SS fasteners.

I've got a pretty decent supply of ERC... aromatic... 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 and a bit of 8/4... 4 years air dried.

I'm in Graham, but do a daily run to Durham.

PM me and I'll bring a board to see if it'll do ya.
