Also what are the typical costs involved in having air dried lumber run through a kiln? |

You were very close..
rywilson,
You can try the Woodweb directory or ask NC State about kilns in the area.
NCPete,
I charge .65/bf ( and cost will go up this year) but only for a full load so 1.00 would not be out of the question for a small amount. |

He also bought that extended warrenty that thay try to sell (and used it). It is a slow process and he never had the problem of losing to much moisture to fast , but he had to put a peg board wall with fans behind it to get even drying and consistent air flow. The building was well insulated and he ran the water / moisture out a hose in the side. If you have questions PM me and I'll give him a call
(I should give him a call anyway) |

How ya doing? I still have that wide walnut, ear marked for a dining room table top.
Jeff]I wonder if I messed up with those 6"x6"x8' walnut posts that I got from you. I put them in the gusset raffers of my attic.
Been up there for almost a year now, I guess. It is temp/humidity controlled to some degree in that I have the attic vents fans removing hot air in the summer. They come on at about 110 degrees. I did take a reading up there during this past summer when it was really hot, and I got about 120 (+) degree reading.
But then it would cool down at night.
Does anyone think that the wood would be damaged by drying like this????

NC Pete - I'm in-line with Kyle on my KD prices. Depending upon the species and the initial MC%, most green 4/4 oak, etc will average out around .70 bd ft with a 1000 bd ft minimum.
For a small load, a buck a board foot sounds pretty good, especially if they are a good operator.
