And I havn't made any contacts that far out yet, but will search and see if I can find somone local to you.
Do you want someone to saw on your site or can you take the logs to a mill?
You may want to consider calling wood mizer (1-800-553-0182) I think I heard "find a sawyer" option and I know they keep records of where their saw mills are.
One other thing, you might want to estimate how many board feet of lumber your looking at. Most who mill charge by the board foot. There's usally a setup fee and a blade damage fee to, if caused by log trash, (nails, screws, glass, rocks, etc...) it's amazing what you can find in a tree, one day I hope to find a gold coin
Thanks

Coming to my site in Hickory would be best (their very heavy) but I would be willing to transport them as well. I occasionaly travel back forth to Raleigh and Charlotte.

He has a protable bandsaw mill and lives in Raleigh. I had him come out to Chapel Hill to cut a 28" dia 15' long hickory log into lumber and it cost me about $120 if I remember correctly. I calculated that I got more than 500 bf from the two logs. This was about 3 years ago, so I hope this is still an active site. Note: it is not millionwheels (as NASCAR site!).

Thanks for posting the Mill On Wheels website. This site has some great info on drying wood and wood movement, stacking, etc.

His name is Mike Owensby (Dad's Custom Sawing). 828-328-1185 I'm not sure if he is still in business, but you can try. If he is he is the man you want to talk to.
Thanks,
John

a charge of $1.75 per mile for the first 25 miles and $1.25 for each mile after. This is a one way charge with a minimum of $39.00 for set-up and break down. This is around one hour as a rule. Sawing Fee by the hour:
We charge $39.00/hr, This is for the running of the mill and the operator. Additional Labor charges if needed:
If you need to have us move and stack the wood for drying, there will be an additional $30.00/hr charge for labor
If you don't have someone to help you with the moving of the milled lumber we can provide help for an additional $15.00 an hour Blade Damage Fee:
A charge of $30.00 for every nail or stone that has damaged the saw blade.
Sometimes it helps to break things out...

It is mobile, but I have 4 jobs that are at the farm. Most of my customers now bring the logs. I use a woodmizer LT40Hd for my sawing. My Lucas Mill dedicated slabber is not available for the general public. |
