Hinges

Not too often that I get out and about to local stores. Never, actually.
Awhile back, I ordered a set of hinges for a chest project from Van Dykes, but was dissapointed in them and decided not to use them. That being said, I'd appreciate any hints as to where I might find a good/great selection of hinges and similar hardware for wooden chests and such. These hinges will be exposed, so appearance is important.

Re: Hinges

I have had some great hardware from Lee Valley. They are pricey now with the exchange rate. But the quality is fantastic.

Re: Hinges

Try Rockler or Woodcraft. Be aware that hinges such as you ask for will give you "sticker shock". Our local Asheville Hardware carries Rockler and Klingspoor products so that we can walk in and pick them up. Perhaps there are some similar arrangements somewhere close to you.

Re: Hinges

Capital and Briggs have a good selection or did last Jan. All brass hinges are pricey!

Have a look at Horton Brass www.horton-brasses.com

Very wide selection and excellent prices

Re: Hinges

Good info folks, and some beautifull stuff!
"Sticker shock" indeed! Learn something everyday......
Being that I pretty much wasted the money spent on the hinges I ordered from Van Dykes, I think I'll take the "touchie-feely" approach on this next set.
All the shops mentioned are new to me, sooooooo, I guess I gotta do some Mapquest work, then drive into Raleigh one day here soon.
As always, thanks folks!

Re: Hinges

Well, I drove into Raleigh on tuesday, but it was not too productive as far as hinges go, but I enjoyed it none-the-less.
Only mangead to check out Klingspors and Woodcraft.
Lotsa nice wood at Klingspors.
Great selection of tools at Woodcraft.
Picked up my daughter and we went to Old Time BBQ for lunch, but they were closed for vacation. Me sad......no hinges, no BBQ......yet!!!
