Delta/ Rockwell Unisaw

A friend just gave me an older Delta/ Rockwell Unisaw, and I need a motor and switch. Possibly some more stuff, but I haven't really checked yet. Model # 34-450. Any suggestions?

I got mine at woodworkers supply. it is a baldor 3 HP. unisaws use a proprietary mount and the motor costs more because of it. around 350 if i recall. also you need to look at your pulleys. if there is a large 5 1/4" pully on the original motor then the motor was a 1725 RPM and when I was looking the only motors available were 3450RPM. if this is the case you will need a smaller 3 1/4"??? pulley and new belts. around 100 bucks. they were available from delta but that was before the B&D takeover so now i realy cant say. OWWM.com would be a good place to start. I got a magnetic switch from klingspore on capital blvd.on clearance for under 50 bucks was a sweet deal. If you get out of this for under 500 for motor, pulley, belts and switch you will have a real GLOAT. If you do any welding you could make a mount that attaches to any motor and convert it that way but that could run you into a multitude of other possible problems. here are some links to puruse at your liesure.

Thanks for the Info guys! I have quite a project ahead of me, but hopefully I'll have a reliable saw in the end. Yes Fred! it is a 3450 rpm, so I'll need the smaller pulley for the motor. Anymore info, or people with spare parts would be greatly appreceiated. I talked to another friend today and he had a part I needed, so he gave it to me. The tubular fence slide was bent on my saw and he had an extra one. Pretty cool! Were starting out on the right foot on this project. He's also got another piece of the fence that he just has to locate for me.

depending on the amount of use and the age of the saw you may want to replace the arbor bearings while you have the thing apart. none of these repairs are very difficult but they can be tedious. the bearings are cheep and can be had at any bearing supply house. they will need to be pressed on. you can do it yourself but having them [ 1 of them ] pressed saves you from damaging the bearing. one of the links i posted has a step by step to help you along. enjoy the restoration! it will bring you in tune with the new saw. you will be more knowlegable about how it works and how to fine tune it. BTW if the original motor is 3450 you should already have the correct pully.

I have that same model Rockwell/Delta Unisaw. Great saws that are built like a tank. You may need to rethink the motor replacement, if your machine has the oval-shaped motor cutout. The original machine had the bullet-shaped motor in 1 1/2 horsepower, 240 volt. If you retro-fit this machine with a newer 3 horse Unisaw motor, it may require doing some surgery on the saw cabinet in order to use the tilt function.
Upgrade to the Unifence and you have a fine shop partner.

When you say you need a motor and switch, do you mean they did not come with the saw ?? or that they do not work. The origional motor is a real tank. A rebuild would be worth while. Steve Mc

mike is correct about cabinet cutout! forgot that one. If you have the ability or the inclination to build a phase converter I have a deal for you!. My saw was 3 PH when i got it. i did not know how and didnt want to learn to build a converter so I changed the motor and cut the cabinet. I have the original motor and pully and a switch that i think is good. the motor was running when i got the saw. it is the bullet motor and should bolt right up to your saw. you supply the converter and a set of belts and you are up and running. price????? just come and get it!. let me know if you would be interested.
