I'm looking to replace my low end (early Griz) 18G brad nailer. It was rather inexpensive (I think around $25.00 back in the early 90s) and served me well but lately it jams after two or three shots and I don't think it's worth repairing.

I'm looking for any opinions on what should be it's replacement. I would like to have a range of brad sizes, 5/8 to 2" and it should be under $100.00. Any input would be appreciated.

Dan C.

PS... I am leaning towards the the Makita AF505 but want to hear some more input.

I've got a Porter-Cable 18 Ga, but it only shoots 1-1/4" max -- it has been very reliable. If you want to go the HF route, here's one on sale for less than $20 that meets your specs...

I can't speak from experience, but I've heard nothing but good things about the HF models from those who own them.

I have the Harbor Freight gun that shoots up to 2" and have used it for about 5 years with no problems. I have shot 5/8" to 2" with no problems. Think I paid like $10 for it with it being on sale and using a coupon.

I have an older, yellow, HF 18g brad nailer, and it has fired reliably for about 5 years now. think it was $35? but got it on sale for much less.

I recently got a hitachi 18ga nailer from lowes for 79 bucks. I wanted a senco but they didn't carry the good one, so I thought i'd use it for the current job and return it (yeah, I know, not exactly the best practice; karma and all), but have had great results and will keep it. I use this EVERY day. If it dies tomorrow I will have gotten my money's worth and then some. shoot 2'' to 1/2 brads (maybe less). definately worth it and convenient to purchase.
