Re: FS: Unique overarm pin router & table

Ok Tom, I'll ask another newbie question (what else is new, huh). What does a pin router do? I have a Craftsman router that looks just like that one (without the over-arm thingy).
Take care,

Re: FS: Unique overarm pin router & table

Randy,

There is a steel pin right below the router bit. You would make a template that you wanted to make lots of and the pin would follow the template and the bit would cut out the piece above it. With the router on top you can see the cut being made, and if you have many inside cuts to make the router raises and lowers into each cut like a plunge router. Does this make any sense?

Not sure I can make it to Canda. I figured you caught it on the lake here.

Re: FS: Unique overarm pin router & table

Tom,
So, would the workpiece "ride" on top of the template and then you push the workpiece/template together around the pin? Thanks

P.S. I would love for you to come fishing here anytime. There are fish like that one in Lake Gaston, but not nearly as many as in Canada. We fish for 7 days and catch hundreds of fish! I know that sounds like a "fish story", but just ask anyone who's ever fished there....

Yes it does, you could use doubled sided tape to hold the 2 together. I also saw where someone had made a vacuum template to hold the workpiece to it.

Caution....... I think I maybe highjacking here...

So..........Randy, where in Canada is it that you like fish? ( I fished quite a bit in Northern Ontario, growing up!!)

My apologies for the highjack of the thread, Tom!

Thanks

Wayne

Re: FS: Unique overarm pin router & table

Went up to Red Lake a couple times and flew from there into Hazards Lake for a week's fishing (Greens Fly-in Camps). Great Fishing!! Doubt I'll ever be able to afford it again but it was sure worth the trip!! Go the last week of Sept when the bugs are down and the trout are up!!

Re: FS: Unique overarm pin router & table

Wayne,
A group of guys have been going to a cabin outside Westport, Ontario for about 30 years now. The cabin is on Canoe lake. I married one of the guys' sister-in-law about 16 years ago and have been making the trip ever since.
It used to be the guys and their kids camping under the stars. Now the kids are grown & gone, so it's just us OLD farts in a fairly new "rustic" cabin. Plenty of fish, good food, and strong drink.
You really have to love fishing with this group. We usually pack a lunch and stay gone all day. We trailer the boats to lots of different lakes in the area. It isn't as glamorus as a "fly in" with guides, but you can't beat the price! Usually costs us less than $100 per person for the cabin for 8 days! Other than that, it's the cost of gas and food. Oh, and whatever you are drinking!
Take care,

Re: FS: Unique overarm pin router & table

PappyJ,

Auhhh yes! The old Rideau canal and lakes! More lakes than land up there in that neck of the woods. That truly is a paradise for trout fishing. At least used to be. (You just have to make sure your not out there during black fly and mosquito season. One can be literally eaten alive by them critters! Nothin' a little nip of Crown Royal wouldn't take of though! )

I actually grew up west of there - just north of Toronto. I get up to see my sis about every summer and head up to Georgian Bay to play in the water!

Glad that you enjoy your outings up there!

Wayne

Re: FS: Unique overarm pin router & table

Wayne, what a co-inky dink, Crown Royal is my drink of choice! You are very astute, my friend. We don't worry about black flies, a bug suit and plenty of CR and we are good to go!
It's a beautiful country and the people are very friendly. I love going each year and can't wait 'til June! I have a neighbor, here at the lake, who is from Canada and worked in Toronto before becoming a US citizen. Maybe we need to have a Canadian reunion up here some time????
Take care,
