Howdy fellow woodworkers! Just want to place my first posting here to introduce myself. I hope to learn and share here.

In short ... I'm a relatively new woodworker living in Charlotte. About 2 years ago I picked up a woodworking book at Barnes & Noble and read it front to back. By the time I was a quarter the way through it I had more/less decided this was going to be my new lifetime hobby. You see I work for a software company and am on a computer every day, all day ... and in that kind of environment I needed a release that doesn't involve a screen. Woodworking reminded me of "Wood Shop" class in high school and the great feelings and memories that brings back ... so I said, "all in" (yes, I play poker too). Before the month was over I had dropped a small fortune at Woodcraft buying only the "essentials" ... okay, everything I put my hand on practically. So, now I'm here ... an amateur hobby woodworking reading every magazine, book and website I can get my eyes on in hopes of one day being that "master craftsman".

I've started my "hobby" (obsession?) with furniture. Initially outside furniture, but more recently stuff for inside. My wife and I have our first child expected in late May, so I took upon the challange of building the Crib and Changing Table (the second still in progress).

Hope that gives you a good intro ... looking forward to being an active member here!

Welcome to the forum Jeremy. That is a great introduction. You should be warned, or perhaps are already aware, that without pics, nothing happened/was built/born/ or whatever. You can click on 'other links' in the upper right to request a photo album, so your proof can be permanently stored here.

Jeremy welcome to the site. Thanks for the introduction. I would love to see some of your work and the "necessities" that you just had to have from Woodcraft. Like Pete said, a photo album is the next step. Please let us participate in your next project, and CONGRATULATIONS on the soon to arrive little one. Don't be a stranger, and I look forward to seeing you around.

Jeremy, welcome to North Carolina Woodworker and thanks for that great intro. It sounds like you got bit by the sawdust bug pretty good. I look forward to hearing from you and seeing some pix of your work. Congrats to you and the LOYL on the upcoming birth of your future shop assistant.

Welcome aboard! Great intro. Sounds like you fit in really well. Please do share your purchase and projects (pictures and description). It seems that the highly contagious Woodguy disease has struck another - without direct exposure (do we need to contact the CDC? )!

Re: Stop the Applause, I'm Not Going Anywhere

Hi Jeremy,

Welcome to the North Carolina Woodworker. From your intro, it sounds as if cskipper is correct... you have been struck with woodguy disease. I agree that woodworking is a great place to be when you need to get away from work. I'm in IT stuff too; I've been working for IBM for a long time. Building homes and woodworking is how I get to the other side of the brain.

Welcome

Ray

Re: Stop the Applause, I'm Not Going Anywhere

Welcome from another Mecklenburg County WWer.

Where are the pictures? I'm surprised someone hasn't politely pointed out the forum "rule" of: No pictures, didn't happen

Good to have you aboard, you'll find a wealth of knowledge and opinions here and a VERY friendly and helpful environment.

In what part of the County do you live? There are several Charlotte area members around. I'm up north near Mountain Island.
