Hello, my name is Charles and I'm a woodaholic. I live outside Indian Trail in what used to be the country, but suburbia is rapidly closing in on me. I still have the luxury of being able to run my planer at 10 p.m. and not bothering the neighbors, so I spend quite a few evenings working late on whatever project I have going. I typically get totally consumed when I'm working on a project, usually some piece of furniture, and ignore other things around the house that need to be done. Sound familiar?

My other passions are fishing and bicycling, though the traffic has become so heavy here I have to be very selective where I can ride around here. I have a weekend place in the mountains near West Jefferson where I can ride safely, though the hills there are becoming more difficult to deal with as I'm aging. Plus I'm always tempted to get in the stream and go fishing when I'm there.

I've considered joining a 12 step program for compulsive lumber buyers; I scour the classifieds and bulletin boards all the time looking for a deal on lumber. Fortunately, my house is not visible from anyone elses so I can build lumber sheds whenever I need to store the latest deal. I had a fellow who had a bandmill that I used to mill up lumber for me, but he retired and sold his mill without giving me a notice. I'm hoping to find someone to replace him, but he is going to be very hard to replace.

I work out of a 24' x 26' shop that's totally disorganized, dusty and cluttered. I can't buy any more big tools unless something goes or I add on, which is unlikely at this time. I'm hoping to refine my skills to the point I can supplement my retirement income (around 6 years away) with my woodworking hobby.

That's it for now.

Welcome to the group Charlie! I think you found the right site for your addiction. Be warned, we have the dreaded Wood Guy disease which causes the purchasing of new tools regardless of the price or place to put it! We love pictures, so please request a photo gallery and let us see your work. Enjoy the site!

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: Newbie from Indian Trail

Welcome aboard, Charles -- we're always happy to see another wood addict like the rest of us -- loads of fun and good info on this site -- good people, too. Be sure to request a Photo Gallery by clicking on the Other Links on the main menu bar. Cause around here, "no pics, it didn't happen". We'd love to see some of your dust in that shop and your projects, too. Be sure to post your location on the NC Woodworkers Map on the left side of the screen, too, so we might have a clue where Indian Trail is located!!

Charlie, welcome to North Carolina Woodworker. I am glad you could join us. From the looks of your intro you're going to fit in here with no problem at all. I look forward to reading your input to the forums as well as seeing some photos of your projects.

Re: Newbie from Indian Trail

Hi Charlie, glad you found NCW. Your in the right place.

It must be a common thing about shops you describe. Mine is exactly the same way. But, if we spend the time necessary to eliminate clutter and dust we seriously lessen the time we have to do what we love...making sawdust!!

You'll find some very interesting reading here, I wish I had more time to spend doing that myself. I am making my rare appearance and playing catch up.

Welcome to NCW
