Hello everyone. Man, this website is full of really nice people. I think I mainly just joined so I could be friends with yall. My name is Ben, I'm a historian, I live in Chapel Hill and just moved down from Boston. Before that Houston, before that Auburn, with a stop here and there in London, Montana, and a birth in Atlanta a ways back. I worked for a rustic furniture maker who used a lot of locust and mt laurel, and learned by just trying things out. I'm afraid that's still mainly how I operate. Sometimes I cuss a lot in the woodshop.

I'm working on a walnut dining room table that's as big as a bus. I started a thread today and have already gotten lots of great advice.

Here's some pics:

Welcome, Ben, from a former Houstonian...well, Clear Lake City, anyway.. close enough to get annexed if you know what I mean.

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Re: Hi there from Chapel Hill

Hi Ben and welcome to NCWWer!
Another Chapel Hillian (we gotta work on that spelling) here. Of course, I couldn't actually afford to live there after working 30 years at UNC-CH. Luckily I wasn't born during your specialization era, so you won't find much about me

Enjoy the forum,
Roger

BTW, I did work with HG Jones a bit and William Powell was my history prof when in school . . . man I'm old

Re: Hi there from Chapel Hill

Hey there -- I thought I'd use my second post on this forum to share a similar shot of one of your new neighbors playing his brand new custom guitar, albeit a bit overdressed

I gotta believe that studying the south from the south is a heck of a lot easier than from way up there over the horizon. Anyway, welcome to Chapel Hill -- I bet you a nickel you'll be spending some time at the libraries here at UNC... lots of southern history to be found there (but I bet you already knew that!).
