Hi,

I am Dave, and commonly go by the handle of Chappy as I am also a medically retired US Army Chaplain.

I am married and 57 YOA. Currently we are staying in El Centro California while I await my turn to have a double lung transplant. (Results necessitated by my service in Desert Shield/Storm)

The moderators were gracious enough to allow me to join even though I will be lurking from "twice out of sight" for the next little bit.

I call The Knoxville TN area home but right now the lungs God gave me can't handle the humidity that I grew up with.

I mostly think of myself as a "Wood Butcher" because my time in the military did not allow for honing my skills in woodworking. I have a fair "Basic Shop" but need to develop my skill level.

IF the transplant comes thru we are hoping to once again live in the East Tennessee or Northern N Carolina are.

My wife is Pat and she hails from Knoxville. No children, but for those of you who would understand, we have a dog, and there is a cat who puts up with us.

God bless,

"Chappy" ~ Dave

Ah you know how I meant that line I see.

Dogs say: They feed me, they pet me, they walk me, they take me places, they must be gods.

A cat says: They feed me, they pet me, they take care of me, I must be god.

Thanks for the welcome.

Re: Hello from a missplaced Southerner

Tracy,

I will be glad to share some of my work when I get back to my shop. Right now we are in an older motor home that some great friends are letting us use while we wait.

I have some 1.125" X 27" X 30 foot Black Walnut curing out in Carlsbad, NM that I want to turn into a gun cabinet, and a dining room table one day. And darn to do the table Pat will have to let me buy a bigger planner, and maybe a larger Jointer. LOL

God bless,

Dave

Re: Hello from a missplaced Southerner

Phillip,

Thanks for the reply. It is for folks like you guys and gals on this forum that made that service an honor for me to do.

I managed to make Vietnam, Bosnia, and Desert Shield/Storm, and where ever I was sent I met good folks from the South.

Just don't track that sawdust into Momma's Carpet! (Best way is to stay in the shop) LOL

God bless,

Dave

randy,

You folks did a good job keeping the South, and the USA worth coming "Home" to.
"They also serve who stay and wait."

And thanks for all the prayers.

Chappy,

Welcome aboard! I am adding you to my prayer list!
I have a good friend who is a retired (but still working) chaplain at Camp LeJeune and I am grateful to you both for your service. I look forward to the day you can come back this way and set up shop!

May God Bless you!

Mike

Re: Hello from a missplaced Southerner

Welcome Dave...from another one. I have never heard such a compelling story as yours for membership on this site. I applaud your service for this country, and your service to the boys who are out there keeping the world safe. Being their spiritual adviser really helps to keep them strong. I'm a UTK graduate and know the gods-country of Knoxville. So I am glad to have you here, and look forward to your continued input in the forums.
