This is for the Mods and Admins. What if you posted a small graph, "thermometer" or other device on the Home page that shows the daily progress of donations? (Similar to what other charities sometimes do) Be creative-- a saw cutting a board, hammer driving a nail, brush painting something, etc. Might encourage people to donate toward reaching the quarterly goal? Just a thought.

Re: Donation Barometer

I know the admins/mods are reluctant to do the barometer thing etc, but really it can't hurt.

Here are some random thoughts for everyone to ponder:

"If not now, then when? If not me, then who?"

"I looked around and said why isn't SOMEBODY doing something? Then I stopped and realized that I am SOMEBODY..."

Be careful what you ask for boys. You might just be drafted into the fundraising forum!

I think both ideas are very good and thanks!

Re: Donation Barometer

Reggie, hope you don't take this as an insult, but we are on the same page with the barometer

I've run a few things up the proverbial flag pole. There are a few options and packages we could use. Some are simple, some are full blown Donation systems.

I'll bump the Staff discussion threads with your encouragement.

Thanks for the suggestions!

This is not really an Off Topic post. I'm going to move it to the Fund Raising Forum

Another option is to open a Help Desk thread with a type "Suggestion" when you have ideas or things you'd like to see done with the site.

Jim

Re: Donation Barometer

I am supposed to be "politically correct", but I don't think I can so here goes... I expect I will get moderated.....

Personally, I am for doing the barometer. It would be a bit painful for me, as I would be the one to update it. Although I am not the fund raising director, I am the treasurer. My perspective is that Tar Heel collects the money and I count the money since I hold the financial accounts.

Back on the subject. It has been suggested to do the barometer thingy, but then we have had some members express dissatisfaction with the fund raising banner at the top of the screen so in the name of trying to do the right thing, a decision never got made.

I am just the lowly treasurer. I would suggest every member send the President (DOUGLAS ROBINSON) a Private Message and maybe he will get motivated.

He REALLY likes getting lots of PM's so feel free to send multiples!!!!!

If you leave home going somewhere you've never been, you usually take a map, right? How do we know where we need to go without a goal or level to hit! I personally don't understand how anyone could be offended by this, it's just a measurement tool.

I am very pleased that the BoD will consider this. Thanx, Gents! After all, it's for "the cause," right?

Re: Donation Barometer

Oh yes, most definitely for the right cause and the right reasons.

Seriously, we had briefly discussed it, but we had gotten side tracked. Between the raffle, the turning symposium, the Klingspor event, our personal lives, and then woodworking, it is tough to keep up at times.

I'd rather look at the barometer than those adds for the Cindy Crawford home collection that keep popping up.... Now if those ads had pictures of Cindy Crawford I might feel differently....

Reggie, as the Development Director, I'm all for it. Donations have slacked off. I do believe a visual reminder could do nothing but help. I certainly don't think it would be detrimental.

Re: Donation Barometer

Since I don't see a thermometer, barometer, scale, etc, can I presume we dropped the idea?

Reggie:

You have assumed too much. We just don't work that fast as we are spread all over the NC. Scott, Travis and I discussed briefly today when we got together for other corporate business, we need to discuss it with the entire BoD next. After that, if we decide to try it, the highly-underpaid (i.e., not at all) web administrators will have to program it.
