What I did this weekend.. not WW related

This was my first attempt at laying tile. I think it turned out pretty nice. It's a total of 27 sq feet. It took me 8 hours to lay the tile, and a couple hours to apply the grout, dress the gout, and clean it out. Just finished sealing the grout this evening. If anyone has given though to doing a project like this, I'd say go for it. It's not hard, just time is involved. As long as you take your time, you'll do well. The project ended up costing about $220. My dad had a good tile saw I borrowed, so I didn't have to spend money on renting or buying one of those. Thanks for looking.

Clay that looks really great, a huge up-grade in your kitchen

That explains why we haven't seen you around in the last few days...you were actually doing something productive. BTW, that kitchen is too clean to believe that food is prepared in there

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Now you can see what the kidos are doing behind you when your washing the dishes Nice work Clay - if it involves wood and work - it's classifies as woodworking in my book.

Clay, I have done a bit of tiling and I know it is hard to keep even and the lines straight, and messy. Looks like you did a great job. Did you use spacers and longer screws on the electrical outlets and switches? Most importantly, is the wife happy?

I used 1/8" spacers for the tiles. I took my time, and took a somewhat anal approach to getting my tiles all lined up. I ripped a 1/4 piece off of a 2x4 to give me something to rest the bottom tile against the top of the little backsplash, so they would all be level. (The only wwing in this project) And 1" 6-32 screws for the outlets.

Most importantly, is the wife happy?
Oh yeah... She's beaming.

After this project, I'll have to admit, I would have been upset if I would have paid a professional tile setter to do this job. I imagine I saved a bundle of money. No offense to professional tile setters of course, they have my respect. But if you have the time, it's a worthwile project. It's a nice upgrade to the value of your house.

Clay, that looks great! What kind of grout sealer did you use? We tiled the kitchen counters and John did the back splash. Personally, I considered it work! Yours added a very nice touch to your kitchen. Great job

That is impressive. I figured you would have them horizontal, but diagonal with a pattern is neat. I be the tile saw came in quite handy!

Looks great Clay! Now, it is time for the bathrooms!

What kind of grout sealer did you use?
I used a penetrating grout sealer I got from BORG. Be sure it's grout sealer, and it's penetrating, not tile sealer.

Looks great, Clay!
I've done a couple of those and I know how tedious they can be. Good choice not to go with a real small tile. DAMHIKT

Re: What I did this weekend.. not WW related

Great tile job there Clay.

I too did something very similar to my backsplash area in my kitchen.

It was a first for me too. Doing that pattern that you did should have given you the experience that you need. So that you wont be scared to tackle larger tile jobs.
