Not really wood related
Has any of you fine woodworkers had the opportunity to dine
at Ruth's Chris Steak House?
Am curious what the atmosphere is like. I'm getting tired of going
to the places that have sports on several TV's and the music is
so loud that a person can't carry on a conversation without
shouting. Not that I can afford to go out to eat steak often but,
would like a relaxing atmosphere for a change when I do go out.
Oh yeah, don't want to take a 2nd mortgage on the house either.
Thanks
Woodrat

Re: Not really wood related
MIL's favorite place. Quiet ambience; good food; everything ala carte; EXPENSIVE. Two other options are Ray's off of Buck Jones where Ruth's Chris used to be. Still expensive but IMHO better food. For great steak at a reasonable cost with good atmosphere I go to Peddler in Oak Park shopping center off Glenwood. Food just as good as the other two (in fact MIL states Peddler has the best prime rib) at 20% or so less. Ask for Becky. Best waitress in the house. Tell her "Trouble sent me". HTH

Re: Not really wood related
Love Ruth's. My wife and I ate there only one time and we made a night of it. The atmoshpere is quiet and formal, and the food is beyond words. We dined at the one in Cary, NC. It is pricey, but as far as I am concerned, well worth it. The steak melts in your mouth. Hope you go.

Re: Not really wood related
I ditto what's been said and add;
The portions are huge and the meat is very rich. When we go my husband and I split everything and it cuts the price in half basicly. We reserve RC for b'days, anniversaries and such. It sure is good!

Re: Not really wood related
It's great but go hungry (the petite fillet is more than I can eat) and take plenty of dead presidents pictures with you.

Re: Not really wood related
As an alternative, I'll suggest this place:
Welcome To The Home of Rio Steakhouses
I've been to the one in Cary (once) and was very impressed. It's $25/person, but it's all you can eat meat and appetizer bar. They walk around with meat on a skewer and cut off slices for you right at the table. I don't mean to compare this to Ruth Chris, it's just an "alternative dining experience". We really enjoyed it.
Yes, that's all you can eat bacon wrapped filet for $25/person!
And their desserts are fantastic if you somehow manage to save room....

Re: Not really wood related
Gosh!! Thanks for all the replies. I guess I'm not the only
one getting tired of the TV's blaring and the overbearing
music. Not that I don't like sports or music, (I played lead
guitar in bands for years), it just gets to be too much when
one wants a nice quiet evening.
I quess some of those loud places are being driven by the
"younger" crowd and that's what they like. I like a nice
qiuet evening, a good glass of wine, and being with LOML.
Again thanks for all the replies and suggestions. Some of them
sound really good...well...they all sound good.
Thanks,
Woodrat

Re: Not really wood related
Way back when...the Angus Barn on 70 near the airport was our favorite place for red meat (and red wine ) in the Triangle. As of a few months ago it was still mighty good.
If you're looking for more moderate prices we just had a Texas Land and Cattle Co. resturant open near us by Concord Mills Mall...kind of like an upscale Longhorn Steakhouse. If there is one of these in the Triangle it's worth checking out.

Re: Not really wood related
Try Hartman's in Durham if you are anywhere close to it. If it is still there now, been 20 years since I ate there. 20 years??? Time flies by.

Re: Not really wood related
This is one of my favorite places!!very good value. Even veggies can enjoy just the salad bar (fabulous) and pay $10 less than the meat eaters. Maybe a good place for woody get together sometime??

Re: Not really wood related
Mike,
The entrees were in the $14-$25 range but included soup or salad and 2 sides. I had a smoked sirloin dish that was very good. Mary Ann had the small ribeye which was good but sliced much thinner than she likes. Next time she will ask for a smaller but thicker cut to make up the 8oz.
Almost forgot to mention-they have Shiner Bock on draft which is not very common outside of Texas.

Hartman's was GREAT! Was. Closed ~10 years ago. Shame. Best Blue Cheese salad dressing around. IMHO Angus is only OK now: FIL used to spend BIG bucks there, entertaining clients; knows Van (owner) and Walter (head chef) personally; but of late has been very disappointed with them. We went there recently and it does seem that it's not what it was just 5-10 years ago. Still packs out though. If you go try the chocolate chess pie, an invention of Angus. MMMMMM!
