General Contractors License?

Does anyone know of a good study guide or self pace program to get your General Contractors License? Thanks and God bless.

Re: General Contractors License?

I've had a VA lic since 1965 and was hoping that NC would get reciprocity but didn't happen. I took JJ Johnsons weekend course and I know some folks who took the Comm Coll courses. It's a trick question test and I don't think anyone would have passed w/o a course of some kind. BTW, I happened to get the test with a 24 page blueprint. There were so many complaints (only 22% passing) that I don't you'll see that one! I took it in 1995, so many things may have changed since.

Re: General Contractors License?

Michael,
Have you been to the Licensing Board page yet?

North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors

I took and passed the exam in 85. I took a coarse from a Guilford County Bldg. Inspector who taught the class through our Community College here.
I suggest you check out your local school or call an Inspector and request info there. Good luck and as Joe said, they are trick questions!

Re: General Contractors License?

Michale,

I took the NC General Contractors Exam in 2005 and passed. It is a lot of material to cover and you will definatly want to put yourself on a study scheduel. I suggest that you consider taking a study course through your community college. Three weeks before I took the exam the state changed the curiculim and the testing process with out prior notice. This caused me to spend another +$150 bucks in text books not to mention countless hours reviewing the new material. I even went as so far as to complain to a State Senator but to no avail.

The instructor that I used was good and had a lot of great advice. I think he does seminars around the State. PM me if you are interested his name and my study notes. (I think I still have them.)

Re: General Contractors License?

Michael,

FTCC has a course to get you prepared for taking the test. Check it out! Good Luck. Terry
