Check their website & see what they have on it. It'll probably cycle back through their shows before long. |

* Concrete at home : innovative forms and finishes : floors, walls, fireplaces, countertops; by Fu-Tung Cheng with Eric Olsen; Taunton Press, c2005.
* Concrete countertops : designs, forms, and finishes for the new kitchen and bath; by Fu-Tung Cheng with Eric Olsen; Taunton Press, c2002.

From what I remember, it is fairly labor intensive. HTH |

There is a very well written book and DVD from Futung Cheng, that describes the process in enough detail to replicate it. His web site is quite good : ChengConcreteExchange.com. He also sells premixed color/water reducer/plasticiser and other needed items.
I also happen to catch the 'Rock Solid' episode on countertops. As with all HGTV/DIY shows, there are sorely lacking on the details.
So far, I have only made a few test squares. Couple of things to consider:
-It is messy!!
-concrete weighs in at ~150lbs/cuft
-forms need to be mounted absolutley flat, plane and level
-concrete has finite work time
-need a wet grinder >>> lots of water, again it makes a mess
-need a pencil vibrator, diamond polishing disks etc
- the finished counter top will be heavy, cabinets (and possibly subfloor)need to be fairly well build to support additional weight, since the top should be at least 1.5" thick
BUT you have unlimited design possibiliies (almost)! And the material is fairly cheap.
I need to wait for my countertops till spring (when it is warm again)so I can grind and polish outside the workshop.
If you like to take a peelk at the DVD/book pm me.
Cheers,
Bernhard |
