Name: Todd City: Hillsborough State: NC County: Orange Join Date: Nov 2006 Avg Visit Freq/Week = 0.70 over 180 days | I realized something today thinking about my destroyed fretboard. I can use a fretboard calculator at Stewart-MacDonald, here: Stewart-MacDonald: Fret scales
to figure out the placement of every fret.
Most 22 fret guitar scales would even fit on a piece of legal paper.
Can I get my computer to accurately print a line at different points from an excel sheet? If I could, I would be able to print out a 20" scale for my daughter, tape it to a 1/4" thick board, and slot it in a simple miter box by sawing right through the paper!
Problem is I haven't a clue what program would let me do that or if a laser jet is that accurate. Anyone know?
Thanks,
Todd |

If you haven't tried sketchup yet, you're missing out! It's a free download through Google. Just do a search through google to find it. Try out the tutorials that are available. It's very simple to learn.

Even if the fretboard is not a rectangle (can't they be a long trapezoid?), it still should be straightforward. PM me the parameters and tomorrow I'll see if I can draw something in TurboCAD that prints out to correct scale on my laser printer. If it works, I can create a PDF file for you to print.

Thanks,
Todd |

I made 8-10 copies and took them with me to Greensboro today, but found out from your post yesterday that you were not going to be there. PM or e-mail me your address and I'll stick them in the mail to you.
Rob
PS -- before I mail them, please confirm that 1" length for each fret line is long enough -- I can easily make them longer if you need them larger.
