Well ... that was one of the longest weekends I've had in a while. And it wasn't full of "fun" ... but rather labor-intensive work! We went ahead and tackled the master bathroom remodel/makeover!

This was my first time doing remodel-type work and needless to say learned a lot. My good buddy came up from Florida to help and guide me (as well as put a lot of sweat into it!)

BUT ... we finished the project and now the bathroom is mostly remodeled. We still have trim to put up, paint and fixtures ... but the tile is done! We added new cabinetry, faucets and such to dress it up.

Here are the BEFORE pictures ...

And the AFTER pictures ...

And for the GLOAT that I never intended on ... a tile saw. So if you need to borrow it, just ask!

Jeremy, that looks great, an awesome upgrade. I've been doing some work in our second bath, and it is amazing what you can do in a small space, and how amazingly small the space is for what it costs to do something nice

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

You did a nice job Jeremy! I am sure you are glad to be getting to the end of it.

Nice on the tile saw. Wonder if it will cut brick?

Good Job.
I have done allot of bathrooms and they are labor intensive for sure.
I like that 12 inch tile, goes good with the rest of the room.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Take a breather and relax for a bit.

Lookin' Good Jeremy.

My son did that in my bathroom - took him a month!

Jeremy where did you get your tile saw? I have a few jobs coming up between my house and the parents. I figure 2 kitchens and three baths...it will be worth the investment. Is it a wet saw?

Great looking remodel! I've got some tile work in my future. LOML wants an updated bathroom and a backsplash for the kitchen. What product did you use for the wallboard behind the tile?

Michael, it looks like it is drywall(I hope that is the water resistant kind) from the pics, but IMHO, the best thing to put behind any wet area tile job, one should use the concrete backer board, like Hardiboard (tm) for best long term results.

The tile saw is from Lowes. I think the brand is QEP, if I remember correctly. it's a sliding wet saw that can do compound cuts. We started out with the $88 model and it was going to take a month ... so I "invested" in this bad boy. It was a reasonable $300 and moved things along much quicker and accurately!

We used a concrete backing board called "Permabase" (I believe) from the home center beneath the floor and behind the walls (though the edge tiles go past it by 1 inch onto drywall. Then we used a sealing grout (or something) for the shower and this weekend I'll seal it with another product and silicone the edges.
