I am looking at getting one for another project I have been thinking about for several years now.

Can anyone guess what I might use if for? Hint, I'm an outdoor kinda guy.

I don't have one, but have see a number of them - the wheels are small and it's made of thin guage steel. Might be ok to move light duty stuff around, althought I would think it's about as strong as the plywood deck you put on it and haul as much weight as the tiers are rated for. I would not have a need for something that light duty - Moving lumber from here to there, I'm sure I could break without even trying.

Thanks

My guess is a teardrop camper.

I have the folding version of that. Looks the same except without the hinge and castors. I haven't used it very much yet, but i'm happy with it for the price i paid. It isn't heavy duty, but it'll let me haul lumber, full sheets of plywood, and stationary tools.

Eric you got it.

I have been kicking this idea around for a while now. The trailer is on sale now. But, I don't have the funds being this close to Christmas.

I think the next time it goes on sale I am going to try this little project.

LOML is not into camping, so I go it solo. I love to go in cold weather, just because no one else is around. But, the cold is starting to get to me.

Wayne,
I understand the winter camping thing. Years ago, when I lived back in NJ, I used to winter backpack all of the time because it was so peaceful. But alas, I don't think I could sleep, in a tent, in the snow much anymore.

It looks like a fun project and a nice little camper to have! I was able to guess because i came across that page when looking for information on about the HF trailer.

All you need is a roof rack - why bother with a trailer?

Wayne,
Don't forget to use the HF 20% off coupon when you do buy it. It brings the cost down to $240, you can't buy raw material for that.

even without looking at which kind of HF trailer you are interested in, I was pretty sure the purpose. Teardrops are great, and just about the max I could pull behind LOML's Escape (if she even let me put a hitch on it). They are making quite a strong comeback. The Army ruined 'camping' for me - what with tents the size of houses, with more generator power than many small towns could use - I did spend my share of time under a shelter half, too, miserably cold, or wet, or both. Would have been great to have a teardop behind my 1009 (army speak for Blazer)

I do have it. I've used it for about a year now. I put a plywood bed on it with surrounding "fences".

It has served me very well. I haul lumber, mulch, etc. I did buy an extra tire for it. It took me about 5-6 hours to assemble just the trailer and electrical wiring. And, the wheel bearings do not come greased - make sure you have wheel bearing grease on hand.

If you just have light hauling, I can't see how you can go wrong.

Good Luck,

Mitch Trager
