I want to get my class "B" CDL (think big U-Haul). I hope to be taking my written tests after Christmas. Once I pass those I need to find someone who can go with me to rent a cdl truck I can use to take the driving test. I can drive the truck with my cdl permit as long as a cdl driver is with me. We will do some practice driving and then go to be tested. The cdl driver will hang around and whittle some wood while I hopefully pass the test, then head back to the rental place. I am willing to pay for your time and help. I also posted this on Craig's list and received some offers, but thought I would ask also.

Tom does this mean what I think it does , or is it just a prerequisite???
Unfortunately I let mine expire because I no longer needed the certification for my employment, and would rather not have the added restrictions/offense penalties.
Good luck, it's just like driving a car, but you just need to swing wider, and leave more room

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

Tom good luck on you class bandsaw. I've got my As. Like they have said it's no big deal. But if I was you I would stay away from HAZMAT. Unless you just have to have them. You have to go through H to get them. I would be more than happy to help. But you a ways from me.

Nothing in the pipeline, just that several jobs I have looked at it could help. I am not looking to be a full time driver, just a added bonus to a future employeer.

Dozer, Thanks I will be in touch when I am closer to being ready. I am not in a real rush.

I am not worried about me driving them. I drove many large Uhauls all over the place and I drove a school bus in high school for 3 years.

Tom, you may not need a CDL guide dog. Your standard class "C" operator's licensee allows you to drive single vehicle less than 26001#. Call DMV and ask, it is worth a try. What are they going to tell you- either yes or no. As an example, take your U-Haul. If you are driving it for yourself and it has a GVW of less than 26K, you don't need a CDL. But if you are driving the same truck for hire, or someone else, you do need a CDL.

Tom, my F450 has a CGWR of 33,000 lbs, and I've been told that it is acceptable for taking a CDL test, with the exception of obtaining an air brake endorsement.

If you don't need to use air brakes, you're welcome to use it.

Scott

You all are great! I love this forum. After I take and pass my written test I will be in touch with all who offered to help to figure out a time to take the driving test.
