Hey everybody just wanted to ask if anyone might want to buy some old timbers? The wifes family has an old old family home they want down. It's built with MORTISE&TENNON joints and wood pegs so you know it's old.If anyone wants to know more let me know and I'll put you in touch with the wifes aunt.Love to have it myself but just don't have a place to store it.Butthe way it is if you take any you've got to take all!

exactly what I was thinking.

a 200 year old house may be of interest to local historical societies, perhaps you should shop it to them?

Robert,

Habitat for Humanity of Wake County has a DeConstruction group that will take a structure apart and resell the recovered materials through the ReUse Center. This center keeps somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,200 tons of material from reaching the landfills. The resale of material goes to the support of the Habitat program. They can sponsor several homes per year with the money made. Habitat For Humanity of Wake County - "Building Hope in Wake"

Hey guys Robert here hope everyones dry! I'll see about getting some pic's. The house is in Stanley,NC so I don't think habitat of wake would be willing to come that far. Beside's the wife's family would really like to sell it themselves. They have been trying find someone to buy it,take it down for resale to someone that is referbishing an era house.

I am in Iron Station and may be interested but I am unsure how much the wood will cost. The deconstruction of a large old house can be pretty hazardous by an inexperienced crew so the size and cost of the house would be a determining factor whether I would be interested.

This is almost exaclty how I got materials to build my shop. maybe a little incentive http://www.ncwoodworker.net/forums/s...hlight=my+shop

It was hard dirty work but man did I save a ton of money. If you got the time and the wood in the house is in good shape You may want to consider it. I've still got some oak lumber beams and heart wood pine stacked under the shop from the orginal house (extra stuff). I gave all the 12x12 white oak sils away. This was before I had my saw mill, else I would have sawed them up and had a ton of old growth white oak lumber.

It is hard work I've torn out some of the walls just to expose the structure. My small shop is an old moble home it's kinda hard to move around sometimes but I manage right. There is some newer wood I'm pulling out of the old house for shelves.
