As if you all didn't know what a great forum we have here, I will post another story about finding someone to help me out of a jam through North Carolina Woodworker...

I posted looking for a finish carpenter for some stuff I need to get done around the house, one of which was a near emergency - a kitchen builtin desk that was coming off the wall. I am more of the craft crowd than the building crew; I do a lot of repairs around the house, but when it involves casework and trim I am better off farming it out or getting help. Brad responded offering to drop by and help. It turns out we are practically neighbors. He came by Sunday and looked and we chatted some and concluded what I had feared - it needed to come off the wall, be repaired, then reattached. That was the other reason I needed help; to keep me from trying to do an in place band aid fix. Anyway, last night we fixed it.

Brad had cut pieces for French cleats and brought those over. It started out as a pretty simple plan, but once we got it off the wall we found out it contained a whole lot less solid wood than it first appeared. the sides I always though were plywood with edge banding are actually veneer over particle board. So we ended up cutting a few more pieces of wood to glue and screw into that to give the thing some stability and to have something reasonably solid to attache to the wall. It ran considerably longer than we had planned but Brad stuck with it and did most of the install labor while I ran back and forth to the garage cutting small pieces of wood, finding hardware and steadying the desk from above.

Anyway, I can't say enough good things about Brad or North Carolina Woodworker .
