Webmaster Administrator Senior Moderator Well, I have reached a milestone once again , you may remember my pleading for moral support in March of last year.
I have made it one year not smoking and vow to keep it up for years to come. However there are days that I still could fire up a nice fat cigar and enjoy it. Not gonna do it though , the wife would kill me . I could not have done it without the support of my friends here. . I have quit before, and started back , but this time it is for good . Thanks for all of your support. .

I'm sure it hasn't been easy, but true success never is easy. I'm a former smoker too -- you've just got 35 more years to catch me (I quit from 1-1/2 packs a day in 1973).

To each and every one of you who have quit!!
Although I've never smoked, I chewed for many years. Quit for a couple years several times and found myself in situations which encouraged me to start again.
Its been over 8 years now. Every now and then I still think how easy it would be... Not sure one ever truly gets over the want to's |

Not getting any younger, already had on heart attack, and the way prices for tobacco are going up pretty soon I can outfit a new shop for the cost of a carton of Marlboro. I am a stubborn old cuss though and this new-age of smoking being "politically incorrect" really burns me, no pun intended, and part of me feels that I'm submitting to dissenting voices angry mobs. I am however going to quit. Simple economics tells me that I can smoke or do woodworking so I argue this with myself daily. |

I'm glad you are sticking to your commitment. I wish I had quit long ago but only quit when the big "C" forced me too.
It's been 3 years since I quit and while I think about it occasionally, I don't think I will have a problem staying off cigarettes.
If you find yourself weakening, just think of all the toyls you could buy with the money and think of your loved ones who will be grateful you didn't start back.
Good luck,

It's easy for us to encourage . . . but you were the one that succeeded
However, I disagree with those who say the desire doesn't go away. Like Rob, I quit a long time ago and after 10 or so years had no desire to smoke again. To Steve and Travis too!

This month makes 6 years since I've quit. I won't lie and say I don't miss it cause there are some days that I do, but most days I don't miss always smelling like smoke. I do still enjoy a cigar every now and again without cravings, but that's something that varies from person to person.
Brian.

I feel much better than I did last year at this time. And I smell better too . I feel like a revived, (not new) but revived person. Things will build with time. I still sometimes get cravings that typically go away with time. Those cravings will not get the best of me though. I watched my Father pass from CHF due to smoking. I will not go down that road unless I have already doomed myself, which I really don't think is the case.
