I have been off of the site for the last 3 weeks and in Michigan. My dear mother in law was murdered by my father in law after 47 years of marriage. He had been abusive to my wife and her sister when they were kids and was a very controlling man. She was 70 and had been suffering from early stages of dimentia but was still far from being a burden. He is in jail in Grand Rapids Mi on 2nd degree murder charges and has done a great job of devistating my wife and kids. My next woodworking project is to build an urn for her ashes.

Sad story, Brad -- sounds like he's where he belongs and hopefully justice will prevail. Condolences to your wife and family through such a sad affair.

Brad, my sympathies and condolences. Not the most fun woodworking project to start on, but no doubt very necessary.

Re: MIA for the last 3 weeks

Brad, what a terrible thing to have to face.

Your family is in my thoughts during this awful time.

Making the urn is such a thoughtful project.

Re: MIA for the last 3 weeks

Thanks for all the kind words of support, this is what makes this group so great. It has been a ordeal that I hope no one else ever has to go through. We have only just started the journey as it may take 12 months or more before he goes to trial. Its so hard to believe that a husband and father could do this to his family. She was such a sweet person and we have yet to hear anyone who knew her that didn't love her. The thing that really makes me mad is that even though he did this to her, he retains all of the rights because he is her husband, It took us almost a week just to get his permission to get into thier condo so we could get the items necessary to have her funeral. We had to got to court to block him from recieving her life insurance and pension benefits. Domestic abuse is still one of those things no one want to get involved with and many families suffer greatly because of it. After the fact thier neighbors are comming forward reporting thing that they saw. If you see a neighbor or know of a family that seems to be controlled or anything that just doesn't seem right, Report it to the proper authorities. Had these neighbors come forward before, she would still be with us. We had been trying to get her out and down here with us for over a year, but were told by Adult protective services that there wasn't enough proof to remove her , but that one more incident would be enough to. Well that one more incident proved to be one to many.
