From what I've read, these are not terribly complicated. Might be able to use up some scraps for the keys. Anyhow, it looks like more fun than a coffee table, which is my next project after I finish building my press brake.

Re: Marimba

Joel thanks for sharing - That would be fun to build one - if I could have as much fun playing as they did now that would be cool - let us know if you start building one

Re: Marimba

Great idea
I might have to give it a try.

Here are some plans:

Some time ago a few North Carolina Woodworker'ers made "tongue drums"
A fun project and a bit easier than a marimba.

Re: Marimba

That tongue drum looks like a cool project. I did not find the plans with a search. Does anyone have the tongue drum plans/template from the project?

If I get that done, them maybe the marimba...

Re: Marimba

I have some plans also; an old scanned in depth article. I also have a book on the science behind it with the shapes and formulas for getting the proper pitches out of various materials. It is one of the many things on my "someday" list.

Re: Marimba

This was a Tongue Drum making factory back a few years ago after Wood Magazine published their plans. Lot's of people here made them.

Joe Scharle made a nice one and posted a video here:

Good info here:

I never heard of a Tongue Drum before but I'm pretty sure there is one in my future! Thanks for the info!
