Ok sawyers, what's in the two piles above? The second pile (second picture) should be easy.

This was about 3 hours of saw time on Wednesday evening. Even though we started at 7pm, it was frickin' hot. I was sweating like a pig when all was said and done. And I was also very dehydrated. It happens quick this time of year folks, so drink plenty of water. Took me a couple of days to catch up on my liquids. These were all trash trees that needed killin.

Jay, looks like a bunch of firewood to me.....

Seriously, the second pix looks like eastern red cedar, but I can't make out the type of wood on the first pic.

The second stack is cedar.

The first stack does contain some beech.

However, there are also two other species in the first stack.

Ok, you didn't say there was more than one species in first stack so I get partial credit!

Second guess on the first stack- Beech, White Oak, and Cypress.

Re: hot sticky work (gloat) and ID challenge

Not white oak or cypress.

One of the two mystery species will be harder to identify. It was cut in 4/4. The other mystery species was cut 5/4 (as was the beech).

Here's a couple of hints on the two species:

1) pickles
2) ubiquitous

The picture doesn't show enough detail. You didn't slip some black cherry on the bottom of the stack did you? Boards look too long for that.
Eastern species,.... reddish wood....not cucumber ()....

Hickory!?

Pickles?? Dill is a weed.

OK since one isn't White Oak the other wood that typically has a pickled finish is Ash, though I couldn't tell if you cut it 4/4 or quartersawed it. If quartersawn I would guess sycamore.

"Ubiquitous"- Funk and Wagnals says its gotta be Pine of some variety (SYP, Longleaf, etc.)

Bingo, SYP

Alright folks, only one more to go:

"Pickles" in the sense that it often has a greenish tint and/or green streeks throughout. And often with dark black patches or streaks in it.

I could post a picture of the logs, but that would be too easy. AND NO PEAKIN' IN MY GALLERY!
