Re: Finally cut loose from Corporate life

Congratulations Kyle.

Retirement takes some getting used to, but after you convince yourself that you can stay busy and interested in what you are doing for you, and you can also convince yourself that you really don't need a paycheck anymore, retirement becomes very enjoyable.

Re: Finally cut loose from Corporate life

My dad retired 20 years ago & is still going strong. He says he has so much to do he wonders how he ever had time for a job!
I think the secret is to keep busy. I've seen too many men retire to the recliner & fade away fast. You'll rust out faster than you'll wear out.
Congratulations.

Re: Finally cut loose from Corporate life

Kyle,
Congrats on the stress relief. Hope all goes well for you.
Does this mean that you will be open to sell some wood during the week now? I never could get out there to buy from you because of selling my stuff on the week-ends.
Rob

Re: Finally cut loose from Corporate life

Kyle,

Congrats on exiting the corporate rat race. I pulled the plug ten years ago and was terrified with the thought of no "pay check", but retirement has been an absolutely great new career.

Stay busy and live long.

Re: Finally cut loose from Corporate life

Congrats Kyle!!! Having retired from the DC rat race five years ago, I strongly concur with both points Gotcha made:

Congratulations.
The only thing, is that lately I haven't done as much woodworking that I had wanted to because I have been sidetracked with other woodworking related endeavors, but am having a blast doing those too- magazine articles and product design. Hopefully, they will start to pay off. One of my endeavors could even lead to some sort of paid position (the offer has been made!). That kinda of conflicts with my idea of being retired, so I plan to take it all slowly, and continue only so long as it is fun.

Re: Finally cut loose from Corporate life

Kyle,

Congratulations on your enforced retirement. I had the same thing happen back in 1995-1996; It was initially traumatic, but we got over it and had sufficient funds to put 2 kids through college and pay off our mortgage, etc.

After almost a year of uncertainty I finally had my "severance day" and walked out with the thought that "holy s..t, you don't have a job at 48 years old". Kinda clicked my heels and thought that at last I'm over the uncertainty. That was 13 years ago.

You can't control what happened yesterday, but you can control what happens for all of your tomorrows.

Best of luck to you and your family. Persevere and all will be well.

Kyle, good luck. Working in a job you hate is never good. I am sure you will be successful.
