I picked up some Citric Acid today and need the recipe for rust removal. I have read it here but am having trouble remembering it. My wife tells me all the time that my forgetter is getting better and my rememberer is getting worse.

James

ps. I know that Jim favors the potato method but my wife forbids it. I think I'll listen to her.

Re: Citric Acid Rust Removal?

I use about 1 tsp. per quart of warm water, as instructed by Mr. Keller of this forum.

How long does it need to soak?

James

Re: Citric Acid Rust Removal?

Depends on the size and how heavy the rust is. I left a Stanley No. 5 in for about 6 hours, checking it each 2 hours. But, the plane was 'pit-i-ful'! (pun very intended)
It doesn't look new, but I think it's great since I didn't have to scrub for hours as I feared before Daves advice.
