Phillip,

I'm not sure what you're working with, but if you have: a tablesaw (and/or) a router with fence and straight bit, a drill (and chisel to square out the mortises)/drill press, you can make mortises and tenons. Heck, I've made tenons with a circular saw. It's not the safest way to go, but it works. You can do it bro.

Re: Bunk Tent bed

We have a set of bunk beds, commercially made by an outfit known as This End Up. The bunks came with a prebuilt headboard, a prebuilt footboard and a couple of rails that were all connected with 2 big LAG BOLTS at the ends of each rail. The Headboard is maybe 8 or ten inches taller than the footboard. All the parts are interchangeable so you can use the two (one for each bed) 'tall' headboards for the bottom bed if you are bunking them. The shorter footboards would then go on the top bunk. There is a simple 2 inch pin that keeps the bunks together. I think it's made of southern yellow pine, mostly 2x material. Basically, it looks like a packing crate. It all comes apart with a socket wrench in about 10 minutes, and goes back together just as fast. It may not be the look that you want but if you have an interest, I'm sure I could get you some measurements. It might take a month or so, we have these at a place at the beach. I also have some pictures somewhere. Let me know if I can help.

Re: Bunk Tent bed

My suggestion is go cheap. Last week I was giving my son piggy back rides, messing with a car seat, and watching Thomas the Tank Engine movies with him. This week he's got two black belts and a learners permit to drive. They grow fast and it won't be long until you'll need to get rid of it for something that fits.
