Re: Bunk Tent bed

Looks like a fun project If I were going to make this, I make it out of closed grain hardwood to avoid splinters and little nicks and dents that you would get from softwoods like SYP and yellow poplar. You know how kids are... A wiseman once told me "kids can tear up an anvil". I would also tap on the wifey to sew up the tent.

Re: Bunk Tent bed

Phillip, you've got that licked!

Decide on your wood species and get your lumber.

Glue up or buy it thick enough to get 4" posts.

Figure out how tall you want it to be. Design your bed rails around the mattress you're going to use. The mattress will also give you the width you need.

Just break it down into small portions and go from there.

Re: Bunk Tent bed

I disagree with the hardwood version and would go with a softwood version. I have over my kids things then had to decide what to do with them 5 years later when they grow out of them. If it's truly going to be juvenile furniture it won't be around forever, and even if you used SYP it would probably be around forever anyway.

Phillip,

You can knock that out in no time. Now I better duck, before these guys start throwing chisels and axes.

Re: Bunk Tent bed

Thanks guys for the confidence - but how would one attach the end and side rails - I figure that tenons would be the best but I do not have the means to do that - Is there another way that would be a good way for sturdiness that I can do with the little that I do have
