I just stumbled on this website when doing some research for inlay ideas. These are some of the most fantastic mother of pearl inlays I have ever seen. I can't even imagine the time these must have taken. It's very humbling to see!

Anyone here ever worked with M.O.P? If so, can you tell me anything about how it works?

Re: AMAZING mother of pearl inlays

The pictures of WIP were fascinating, coping saws, double edged razor blades for tools and the "workers parking lot" is a shed full of bicycles.

This is one of the pieces I brought back with me.

Re: AMAZING mother of pearl inlays

It's fascinating work. I am always amazed at what a human being can create even without a shop full of tools and a subscription to FWW magazine

My wife and I visited a furniture factory outside Chaing Mai in northern Thailand several years ago and watched Thai workers inlaying abalone MOP into Rosewood furniture pieces. All they used were simple fret saws, chisels and small soft mallets. The workmanship was equally astounding. I wanted to ship a piece of furniture back to the state, but we just couldn't afford it at the time.
