While using CA glue to effect a repair on a non porus surface today I made the following observations:

1) If a paper towel is used to remove excess it WILL bleed through causing unsightly clumps of towel to adhere to your fingertips.

2) When you already have clumps of paper stuck to your fingers is not a good time to remember you did not replace your container of acetone when you used the last of it.

3) Rooting around for the bottle of nail polish remover that you are SURE you have in the bathroom cabinet is not recommended either. This activity will probably serve no purpose other than to cause a stray cotton ball or two to latch on to the paper towel clump.

4) The Virginia chapter of R.A.W. (Rank Amateur Woodworkers) recommends that you make sure you have the appropriate solvent readily available in your shop BEFORE opening the CA container.

5) For those of you who share your abode with a member of the fairer gender, removing her bottle of nail polish remover to reside in your shop without consultation/permission does not promote domestic harmony.

Thank you for reading this safety tip and I hope your use of CA glue is less eventful.

Re: CA Glue

Today I discovered that stabilizing a green bowl blank with copious amounts of thin CA results in some pretty amazing fumes. Even with a fan behind me my eyes were redder than my hay-days back in High School. It's pretty cool to see the smoke that is generated when CA is applied to damp/wet wood. It's one powerful chemical.
I glued my foot to the floor once...just once...honestly

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools.

If you've ever gotten nauseous from the CA fumes, raise your hand.
If you've ever glued your fingers together, raise both hands.

Yes...might be hard to explain to your buddies why a single guy keeps a bottle of nail polisher remover on the bathroom counter.

Re: CA Glue

Hey Dave O last year I got a brainstorm on using CA to stabilize some soft burl.BAD IDEA.My lungs felt like they were on fire and same for the eyes.So now anytime I use CA in any large amount on ANY wood I do it outside.
