Finally got to use my brand new Delta bandsaw today. After following the assembly instructions to the letter I started it up and it ran great, for about two minutes. A slapping sound behind the top wheel access door and I found the tire had come off the wheel while the blade was still centered on the wheel.

After several times of putting the tire back into the recess on the wheel, the best it will do is about ten seconds and the tire comes off, the blade still centered pretty as you please when I open the access door.

A call to Delta and I'm told it's a defective tire and they're sending another right away. I'm not so sure. Can you think of why the tire would leave the wheel but not carry the blade with it?
It turns out that the previous owners purchased it at a trade show, used it a couple of times and decided that it wasn't for them. The local son-in-law was selling for them on CL. How could I resist! I am now the proud owner of a RBI Hawk 220VS.....
Now to stock up on blades and look around for some simple patterns to cut.
Moral of the story. Keep your eyes peeled on Craigslist! There are good deals are out there.
I'm talking about a standard width extension, nothing way out there. Is there any reason not to attach an extension to the 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" x 1/4" angle iron rails? Am I just missing something here?

I finally got tired of using a sanding drum on my drill press so I broke down and bought the Ridgid Oscillating Spindle/Belt sander.

I'm very impressed with the setup of the machine right out of the box. The table and miter slot were dead on 90 degrees to the sanding belt. The tracking of the sanding belt was dead right and needed no adjustment. And.... I'll never forget where I bought it because the color is exactly the same as the color of the logo of the Borg I bought it from.

I am having two minor problems that I hope someone here can shed some light on.

1. There is a wing-nut type screw that holds the belt sander (or the sanding drums) onto the shaft (you can see this wing-nut at the top of the sanding drum in the photo). The directions caution against over-tightening this screw. However, even when leaving this wing-nut almost loose, using the machine tightens it to the point where I need a pair of vice grips to loosen it. This only happens when using the belt sander, but it doesn't seem right to me.

2. The sandpaper sleeves that came with the unit seem to fit way too loosely on the drum - so loose that they ride up on the drum in use. The manual gives directions as to which size washer to use on the top of each sized drum, but using the correct washer allows the drum to gradually slide up on the drum as the washer has a smaller diameter than the drum. Using a bigger washer eliminates this problem but, according to the manual, is the wrong washer to use. To those of you who have this, or a similar, sander, how tightly do your sanding sleeves fit on their drum? Mine are so loose that if I hold the assembly by the sanding sleeve the drum will slip right out. It seems to me that the sanding sleeves are too big for their drums, yes?

UniFence on a Grizzly G0690 Saw

I recently purchased a Grizzly G0690 table saw with a sliding table. I like the saw and the sliding table works smooooothly but the fence, IMHO, is a real POS.:thumbs_do No matter how much I adjusted the fence I could never get it to stay square and the deflection at the end was a kick in the teeth. When locking down the fence, it always moved right 1/32" which I found to be totally unacceptable and frustrating beyond belief. :BangHead: I had hoped the fence would be at the same level of quality as the saw but I was in error.

I received a circular from Woodworkers Supply recently. They have the UniFence marked down to 1/2 price and with my pro discount, the $244 price tag was hard to resist. So I bit the bullet and got the U50 fence and extension table. (The U30 is sold out.):dontknow:

All in all, with installing the supports under the table, I was able to have the old POS removed and the new UniFence installed in about 4 hours taking my time and working through the details. The blot pattern for the Grizzly is exactly the same as the Delta, (made in the same plant?), so I was able to slide the new rail on and have it bolted down much quicker than I expected. All I had to do was get a longer bolt for one hole and it fit like a glove. Now I believe I have a fence that is up to the task and ready for work. :thumbs_up
