Hi Folks, Friday the 20th is our 10th anniversary. (how did she make it this far) I figure I better put that in there before someone else does. hehe I wanted to get the wife a gift and she says no. She wants to wait until income tax time and get her new floors (hardwood) and some new carpet in the bedrooms. That sounded like a winner to me so we will be looking for a contractor to lay some hardwood flooring in the near future. Steve :gar-Bi

4. Expect a Sammy Sadface when you hand him a Honey-Do list.
5. Yes, he does need 5 routers. And 6 marking gauges.
6. Heaping mounds of partially- or un-read woodworking magazines are a fact of life.
7. Never ever EVER remove anything from the shop unless under close supervision. No, not even a screwdriver.
8. It takes exactly 3 weeks to make a small trinket box.
9. Plan a shopping trip, go for a walk, meet friends for coffee—just get somewhere safe—if he's getting ready to glue up a project.
10. What might look like a junky old tool at a flea market is really a monumental find and source of joy for him. Harness that happiness. Now's a good time to ask him to take you to dinner.
These guys dented my tool budget, but its worth it for the shop real estate that I am gaining! If anyone is interested, the retired washer (dryer died) is available for a small donation to the site. It is a 15 year-old Whirlpool washer it is in great shape and it will probably outlast the new one! Here is a pic. If no one wants it, I am donating to goodwill or habitat restore.
Three years pass without incident. Yesterday was the day I had to return the car as the lease was up. So I go to the garage and ..... the battery is dead! What's going on here? Am I jinxed or is the car trying to tell me something? Anyone have any similar weirdness happen to them?
What are the odds?
About a year after Laureen and I married, my brother was visiting the farm for a week, and he asked my wife and I if he could use the washer and dryer while he was here.

Does your house have a "laundry fairy"? I am very fortunate in that mine does.

About a year after Laureen and I married, my brother was visiting the farm for a week, and he asked my wife and I if he could use the washer and dryer while he was here.

My wife's response was "Jeff, don't worry about that; we have a laundry fairy and if you simply place your clothes in a certain spot, the laundry fairy will wash, dry, and fold them for you without need for your involvement".

At that point (and partially due to what I interpreted to be a somewhat sarcastic tone from my then-new wife...), I began to get the idea that maybe I had not been as forthwright about my appreciation for some of the daily chores that somehow seemed to get done without my involvement...

It is indeed nice to have a laundry fairy, but there are a few inviolate rules. First, socks must be straight and right side out. The laundry fairy does not enjoy having to unball stinky socks...

Second - and more importantly - the laundry fairy does not check pockets. I was reminded of this when my wife called me in the shop last night to inform me that she had found what appeared to be the remnants of a few personal checks in the dryer...

Seems that I took my shirt off in the laundry room when I entered the house late Saturday night after the lumber run, and neglected to remove the checks from my shirt pocket that several North Carolina Woodworker members gave me for the purchase of wood....:BangHead:

As near as I can recall, only Ed Brant and David Delinsky wrote me checks for their purchases, and they have very kindly offered to mail me replacments :icon_cheers (perhaps even this year !)

However, if anybody else gave me a check and I have forgotten, could you please send me a PM?:eusa_pray

Thanks much!

Scott

After the soaking 5 inches we received last week, water came into the basement. From what we could tell, it was seeping in under the foundation and coming up in the gap between where the floor has pulled away from the wall as it dried out over the years. Any helpful advice would be appreciated. All I can think of is perforated piping or French drain or what??
Thanks.:dontknow:

You are welcome to bring your boats, RV's, tents and gear or use mine. I would like to trade these trips for tools, wood, comradeship, lessons in woodworking and pony express when needed. If anyone might be interested in a weekend next spring/summer after a long winter just give me a shout and we will work something out. The who club can come and start an annual get away picnic. I am talking about Stonewall Jackson Lake in central WV. Bass are catch and release but there are some lunkers in there that like to steal crappie right off your line, along with saugeye, walleye, musky and channel cats. Good fishing, good friends make for good times. Steve :gar-La;:gar-La;:gar-La;

We got this from a neighbor when I was a kid and my mom cleaned up/refinished it. It was supposed to have been made in the late 1800's but I have to take that on faith. It got re-purposed from guest duty to our sons "big boy" furniture a couple of weeks ago and it took me about 2 hours to take down and put back together.

I thought fans of old rustic furniture might enjoy some pics so here's a few from various stages of the process.

No turning back now!!
In the new space ready to go back together.
Almost there....

I added a sheet of ply with carpet padding covered in a sheet when I first set this up in our basement 9 years ago to keep from destroying the mattress we had to have custom made to fit it.

Home Depot encourages their employees to come up with "cool displays." The best I have ever seen was in Garner several years ago, just before Christmas. It featured "Buck" five in one screw drivers, and said "cordless, reversable, variable speed, and no batteries required.:icon_cheers" The worst was in Apex Home Depot, over in the paint department. It was to show off Behr paints. They took a piece of MDF, primed it with Kiltz, then they showed how it looked with one, two, and finally three coats of Behr paint. I looked at it and told paint guy "This means that it takes THREE coats of Behr paint to cover Kiltz primer:rotflm:. Next day, display was GONE!
